    Hi,
I have tried HDDscan but cant see which drive is which as unless I dismantle my pc to get at the serial numbers or data it shows I could be scanning the wrong drive.

I want a testing prog that shows my drives like they appear in windows explorer, dont we all !!!!

Having bought a WD usb HDD and had it fail after a whole week spent copying data to it, and now another is saying I/O error after working for three weeks, (the other lasted 3 weeks) I need to test yet another I have bought before wasting time backing up data to it yet again.
I see Victoria on youtube that repairs bad sectors with good from the reserves a drive has, seems a good thing, click link and its a website totally in russian, forget that !

What is a well trusted user friendly GUI but non DOS, prog to analyse a new usb HDD and also keep an eye on those plugged in and detect any failings early on ?,..without slowing down a PC at all.

I use HD Sentinel to monitor my hard drives, it can be set to show an icon for each drive in the notification area, it shows the temperature & is colour coded for the health.

    There’s a Standard & Professional version.

    Hi,
I see data on monitoring drives here for these, but as I wanted to test a brand new drive, see if it was up to spec, no bad sectors, use reserve part to repair any bad parts, though rather not see any at all, in other words is the drive going to be any good before I start using it, can I proceed to use it or find that its giving me an I/O error or that it fails me after 3 weeks use, as have two external drives done so in a month, I just cant keep spending a week copy pasting files back and forth from supposed good new to yet another purchased drive. 4Tb now to shift off a new drive after a week doing nothing but copying files to it.

How do these two progs put a new drive through boot camp ?
Graphical colourful chart of what it found etc.

The drive would probably require formatting & a drive letter assigned so the program/s can ‘see’ the drive to test it.
Why not use a program like Macrium to image the drive then restore the image to a new drive if they’re failing that often.
Also if they’re generic (non branded) drives then they may be of low quality. It would be strange to have two drives fails soon after purchase.

As said, a drive image or file backup is the answer to all that copying, but two WD HD failures after just three weeks or so is unheard of - best drives you can get imo.
