While on my quest to speed up my machines...

I've been looking into speedier replacement software.

For example, Adobe Reader is a slow, bloated piece of garbage. But we all need to read PDFs.

I recommend Foxit.

Windows Live Messenger starts up slow, and is bloated, while supporting very little compared to Pidgin (except audio/video). Being that security is a must these days (and IM convos are plain text and not encrypted), Pidgin also supports OTR, which WLM does not. Note, both parties must use OTR. Currently, only Pidgin and Adium X support OTR.
