I collect a few things and one is the metal tins that go with spirits and some other drinks, the story behind me collecting these is a fairly easy one as my dad was a production planner for a specialty printing company that made these so I as a kid ended up with many of the demo tins, including a test tin for Coke which was a push opening lid and a tin that was only going to shareholders of Trivial Persuit... need to find where I put the latter ones.

These are only a few of the tins I have and many of the smaller ones actually came with the items like playing cards that where to be inside them, the playing cards are unopened in the below ones from Jack D and Anheuser Bush, the large Jack D tin is from early 1930s and a 750ml normal bottle now on sale will not fit it, as the bottle size changed many years ago.

The blue and gold tin at the back is from the champagne maker de Venoge and in the style of a small briefcase which would have housed 2 small glasses and a small bottle of champers, sadly didn't get the contents.

I do have many more that may post if I get time.

So does anyone else collect tins, be they from drinks makers or other areas like lunch boxes?

Actually had some tins, but got rid of them when I moved. I still have a pile of different Jamesons and Jack Daniels bottles I saved.

Bit behind I'm afraid but I collect whiskey tins. I've got about 100 or so in total - I enjoyed drinking the contents too. :-D

Neat Yargwel, good looking collection there and cheers for posting, not easy to come by in the UK as many of the whiskey containers are the cardboard tubes over the metal tins, so 100 passes my 50 or so.

Do have various other tinplate items from original drawings for one of the Bisto tins, to mockups for various other products.

Just found this forum through Google. I have collected single malt whisky tins for many years. My collection is approx. 350 tins, all in mint condition. After moving to a new home I have no space to put them on display. So I want to sell my collection.

Should be easy to do on Ebay, always collecters from around the world usually willing to overpay :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Lots of photographs to be taken now. All the tins are still in the mover's boxes, so a lot of work, but probably worthwile when people are willing to overpay.:)

I just started collecting those! So far I have two! LOL I will keep collecting and get more of them though....

Question: Do you keep duplicates, or do you have only one of each? What are the rules for that?

Dont think I have rules Mimsy, and do tend to only keep one of each makers version as they could release others per year.

I dont keep any of the cardboard tubes that they release, its only tin and if they come with a gift all the better, like ones with glasses or packs of cards etc. The more obscure the drinks maker the better as well as the established makers like Jack Daniels, Jim Beam etc

I dont get as many as I used to now as mine came off the printing manufacturers floor or from the drinks company rep as my father was a print production planner, now retired from that industry, but I still have some collectors items, need to find some as in the original printing plates and drawings I have.

    I collect Whisk(e)y tins too.
In order to be able to keep track of and share my hobby with others, I've created a website: http://www.whisky-tubes.org
Double tins I would like to exchange them for others. You can find them under "Swap meet".
I can't buy and drink all the whisk(e)y in the bottles that are in tins. So i'm looking for a inexpensive way to get tins - too.
So - if anybody have some tins which are not on my web-page: send me an email.

    It's a bad, bad english - sorry!:(

Recently I got a request if I was willing to sell my single malt scotch whisky tin collection. I decided to keep 1 tin of each distillery and to sell the rest. Well I sold a few now. I made some photo's of the tins that are still available. <snip>

Hi. This thread is only for people to share their interest in their collection.

We really aren't here for people to promote their things they have for sale. You'll have to use another site for that, I'm afraid.

@lauraR. Sorry about that. I did not realize. I just want to help people to extend their collection. Any suggestion where to post would be welcome.

    Hi. No problem.

The only place Major Geeks welcomes such is in our Buy, Sell, Trade forum, but that is only for computer parts, as MGs is first and foremost a tech forum. So I can't help you out as far as our site goes.

I'd suggest searching for a forum that specializes in Tins such as what you're looking to sell. Or possibly Ebay.

I've been collecting whisky bottles for years . . . NOW you tell me I should have kept the emptys! :-D

Actually, I do have a couple of old Jack Daniels tins and one tin that contains some coasters - I forget the brand now. I have a few old tobacco tins also. I'd like to collect more, but just don't run across them much anymore.

Nice pics of your collection, DavidGP. I'll post some pics of the few I have if I can find them - think they are still in storage from my move ten years ago.

    Hi Spad

Yeah the tins seems to be for special times of year Xmas etc, so you tend to only see the cardboard tubes for whiskies these days and those are not that special, imho

yeah please do post some pics

    Hello
Hope you don't mind me "butting in" on this convo. I am new to this site (joined only a few mins ago).
I have recently acquired a lot of Whisky and Biscuit tins. I have only unpacked a few of them at the moment. I can't take pics at the mo as my camera has "died" and I'm waiting for delivery of a new one, but I can describe the tins I have. I am hoping to sell these tins on so, if I am breaking site rules or this doesn't apply to your conversation, then I hope the moderators will move it to a more applicable topic or (hopefully not) delete it. I would be grateful if anyone can give me any info or point me in the right direction to find info.
    Thanks in advance.
    1) J&B RARE. Gold coloured metal tube. Approx 13ins. At the bottom of the embossed label is the legend "PRODUIT D'ECOSSE" and who it was imported by.
    2) BOWMORE. Metal tube. Legend of the Sea Maiden. Approx 12ins.
    3) CHIVAS REGAL. Square tin. 2 sides red with gold and silver embossing. 2 sides "siver" with red & gold embossing. "Aged 12 years" "EDITION LIMITEE" so for the French market. Approx 10ins tall
    4) CHIVAS REGAL. Grey tube (more tub than tube). Limited Edition 2000. 9+1/4ins approx.
    5) CLAN CAMPBELL. Bottle shaped tube. Siver with green stripes. Another for the French market. Approx 12ins.
    Thanks again
    Jannie
