I hate when something goes wrong there is always *someone* else to blame..
the old.. he watched violent movies, listened to satanic music, played violent video games.. part of it is the parents who raised this kid don't want to be responsible.. so it must of been ..

Generalisation as I didnt know if we were talking about the other topic over the kid in Canada, ( not going to vote as I cannot blame any of those groups.. if I did, I would choose all of the above )

I have no idea who is to blame and what causes some folk to go postal.... many things trigger someone to do something out of character or in-humane,

Is it pre-determained in genetic makeup...

Is it social circles or peers....

One thing I do know is that its very very easy to choose the cop out options of violent films, music played backwards, parents etc WHY... we feel the need to apportion blame, when blame may not be easily directed onto a cause, as it may not have one... spare of the moment snap in someones thoughts, could just be the cause.

If its the kid in Canada, well who knows, the parents may have thought they were doing an ok job of parenting, they may well have, but in the eyes of a adolesent they may not have been listening or noticing the crys for help...

    SO who is to blame?

The parents for not noticing or the child for not saying anything!

I didn't vote, either, as I don't believe playing the 'blame game' solves anything - just hardens opinions that people already have, anyway.

The bottom line: The responsibility for all actions, whether good, evil, or neither belong to the perpetrator, as he/she is ultimately the one who carries it out.

I'm absteining from this vote too.

As a parent I try to encourage my children (birth and step-kids) to have a healthy moral and ethical stance in life. If they screw up, sure I will feel guilty as an inadequate parent unable to have guided them onto the better path, but they still need to be accountable for their actions, but under the knowledge that I will still love them, no matter what.

Yo don't learn from other people's mistakes, you learn from your own. Acocuntablility for one's actions is, therefore, vital.

heck, i'll vote. the parents are the one's responsible for raising the child from the day they are born till the day that child is no longer legally bound to the parents. the majority of the childs problems and wrong doings can extend to the responsiblity of the parents, the rest is the responsibility of that child. if my child breaks the law, then it is my fault as the parent for not instilling the proper respect for authority into my child. then, my child should be held responsible for his/her actions.

Insufficient data to pick a reason, and there are most likely multiple reasons. Humans are complex.

As Star17 noted some time back, he and his sister were raised vitrually identically, same home structure, same training, same schooling, same environment, same loving and discipline. Star turned out a straight shooter, hard worker, good citizen, and his sister has been an out-of work crack addict for the last 13 or 14 years. So who and what do you blame for HER?

Some kids have a lot of excuses to go bad, some do NOT and still turn out bad. Some kids with a lot of excuses to BE bad rises about it. Ultimately, GOOD parents do the best they can, and sometimes it's not enough. The kid ultimately chooses.

If you cotton to the idea that there ain't anybody here but yourself (sitting in a theatre watching the movie), and that this is just the path that is laid down for you for the spiritual learning, and that your choices are what makes the lessons easy or hard to learn ...then there is no one to blame ..."what is" is what you make of it.

Maybe that IS the problem...too many people think they are in a Virtual Reality and can do what the heck they like to who the heck they like. Kinda like some people are on the internet...not appreciating it is a real person the other side of the computer, with real feelings and emotions.

I know one guy I cam across in life very much subscribed to this theory and encouraged others to just be and do what they wanted to whoever, as they were just put there to interactive with and it really didn't matter how that intereaction went

That is called either a sociopath or a psychopath ....the difference between them and a guru is that the guru believes in karma.

So, another hard lesson for the boy to learn, eh?

Brought my daughter up (yes, I'm a rather proud parent) to listen to no one (other than mom and dad, hehe), to only listen to her inner voice ...to trust herself, because inside she does know what is right and what is wrong.
She has had moments of doubt, but when it came down to the nitty gritty, she always did what was the right thing for her. Most of the adults that know her remark about what a caring person she is. So her path (movie) involved a couple of old farts that reminded her that her being "Knows" and to listen to it.:)

Well, I won't get too philosophical on you, but there various realty planes in one's existence in life.

Basically, they are divided into two overlapping and intertwined states. The first is the 'reality' that we perceive as individuals. It may, or may or may not be consistent with the physical universe. This is sometimes known as a "reality tunnel'. We all have one, and each is different, according to our experiences and perceptions, but has threads of similarity with others. (Is the grass still green to a bind man?).

The second is the physical universe. Some of it we are aware of. Most of it we are not, and carries on whether we are aware of it or not, and indeed of we exist or not.

There are also the factors of other human minds, each with their own reality tunnel, some of which we interact with.

The thing is, to balance our own thoughts with those of others, and the world around us. Exactly what that balance will be, and if it is balanced at all is matter for individual experiences exploration. I any of that makes sense to ya.

You should of allowed more options, like:

    His own fault.

    Mental instability

Peer/society pressure turned into rebellion hate

    Etc Etc

Read G.Ts comments in the thread I started, he & others seems to hit the nail on the head in there if you want another point of view other than your own. And you will learn to open your mind a bit more like I did on the situation. Very informative!

The blame lies in all four choices you've set up in your poll. And others.

Something I haven't heard... I wonder if the Montreal shooter was on Ritalin or any other mind altering drugs. Mostly those help, but a few users go way off the deep end from them. Just something else to throw into the mix.

Good point. I have worked with kids who are a docile as church mice, until they forget just ONE dosage of their ritalin, and then they are totally off the wall. This could also be a possibility.

He wasn't on Ritalin A.F.A.I.K, but having A.D.D. or A.D.H.D. is not a reason or cause to become a mass murderer. My son had (has?) A.D.H.D., and isn't about to commit any antisocial acts.

Seems he was one of these "life is meaningless for me, and everyone is worthless" mentalities.

50 years ago, you'd regularly hear the reminder: "Respect your elders". This mantra worked very well across the millenia and across all the world' s cultures and ethnicities. With the advent of the '60s came the concept of "god is dead" and "antidisestablishmentarianism" which seems to have had the effect of diminishing respect for everyone. Since, earning respect is enormously difficult, many choose to buy a gun and demand it. To bring back the sanctity of life concept, society will have to swallow a bitter pill. There is no way forward through this current malaise, without a massive purge. The gloryfiers of violence need to have all their money confiscated - start with "gangsta" and end with the "kill bills". Follow that by weekly, public hangings of all positively identified murderers. (you get life behind bars for circumstantial convictions and dead for anything else). Soon enough, it won't be "cool" anymore to go around killing people for their Rolex watches, because the revenge of society would be final. Throw in attempted murder charges for criminals fleeing in automobiles ( whether they injure anyone or not) and you may slow down the rate of tragedy on our streets. As a liberal, I'm prepared to swallow that bitter pill. The sooner the better.
