Note: Mods if this is not allowed feel free to delete no prob.

I am having fun with a new TELNET BBS project. This is day 5 of the project. It's an old school style BBS running at (simulated) 9600baud.
Be luddites with us! Totally free, they arent selling anything.
Message bases, live active chat. Main focus is technology general.
(J)ump from lobby to room 18 for active tech chat. Hang out with dorks and nerds. Figure out which one you are if you don't already know. Relive your quickly fading youth (LOL).

This predates the web and I remember the first pages loading at 9600 baud.

BBS were the equivalent of Craigslist, only weirder users.

I started transferring files on my VIC-20 at 110 baud. Then moved to glorious 300baud.
When I had my C64 I scored a 1200 baud tone dial modem. I was full blown pimp then.
    :D

Ran Le Roy Acres BBS for many years (using Wildcat! Bulletin Board software). Started out at 2400 baud and ended up with 56K by the time we finally shut down. World Wide Web brought about the end of BBS' but I understand that Fidonet is actually still around. Was a member of Fidonet and also of a few other more minor message networks. Also did the initial graphics for one of the door games that was available (Legend of the Red Dragon) in RIP graphics when it first came out. Awesome times!

OMG yes. I spent many hours playing MEGAWARS and the chatroom prototype CB simulator. I remember Compuserve charging $5 per hour of connect time at 300 baud, and it was even more if you had 1200 baud.
Those were some fun times I will never forget.

9600baud OMG that was quick in the day!

TBH I miss the old days of BBS and the basic forums as they where much more civil and techy than todays, not to say todays are bad but the days 10yrs ago where fun and not as taxing as today.

I used to love hearing the cccrrrrrrrr of the modem trying to connect.

There was a question, or rather an answer, today on Jeopardy about BBS. I think it said something about
a way in which people communicate that is usually monitored by moderators is this "system".

None of the contestants knew the question, what is a bulletin board service?

No one even took a guess.
