Who uses ICQ anymore?

Who even uses ICQ Anymore? I don't i use MSN,Xfire,Yahoo,Skype and AIM

 

I've not used it for a long time. I use yahoo messenger every once in a while - but I rarely chat anymore (not that I did a lot before, at any rate). About the only place I chat now is MG's shout box!!

 

I used to love ICQ! When I lived in the US back in the mid 90's, that was the only reasonable way to stay in touch with my brother, as phone calls in those days were insanely expensive. I think I was the last in my group of friends who gave it up, simply because everyone else had turned to MSN... Not a huge fan of MSN either, I prefer Yahoo messenger, but I've been forced to use both, because so many friends refuse to accept any other messenger than MSN... Bleh! I've also started using Skype, mainly for the voice messaging, but it also works if I just want to drop a line to someone online.

 

Used it a ton back in the 90's. It was a great free way to talk over the phone too to my friends in the US when I was still in the UK. When BT (British Telecom) is as big a rip off as it is, ICQ saved me thousands.

 

Outdated technology now sadly - used to be great for having group convos

 

I thought you had to add contacts to talk on Skype? Used it ages ago a few times so can't remember!

Over the year or so that I've used it regularly I've had 3 or 4 invitations to discussions from people I don't know. That is 3 or 4 too many, I agree, and they should maintain their security a little better. A few years ago though, I had some on msn as well, and on yahoo messenger too, so no messenger is perfect. So I would say, yes, it happens that people contact you that you don't know, but it isn't something you have to worry about on a regular basis at least! I just click them away and they never appear again.

But I do remember ICQ being terrible for that...

 

I honestly couldn't tell you if I've used it recently or not. They're all grouped together under Trillian, and I just answer whichever one pops up when someone pings me.

Of course, lately I've not been home more than 8.2 minutes, so I've not had Trillian turned on for at least a month either...

 

Actually everyone is Russia is using ICQ or similar clients - Miranda and QIP. They are still very popular and used every day!
