Why does AVG protection only have 273 virus listed?

I have been using RAV anti virus for awhile and it was doing great but wanted to try something else.

RAV had like 8,000 virus definations listed in there list of to protect against

AVG has 273?.,..this worries me someone explain please

 

ya i was thinkin that also..%90 of the virus's that norton has in its database probably aint even a threat to anyone anymore cause there so old.

Maybe talking rubbish but is the 273 not the No of the virus definition file not the number of viruses(virii ?) covered

 

that has nothing to do with the discussion here..lol

 

I love AVG, as I refuse to put anything Norton on my computer. I don't really think it's lacking anything that some other programs offer. It has saved me many times.

does the email scanner only work with outlook?..I use incredimail..

 

AVG comes with an Outlook Express plug-in and I know I've downloaded a plug-in for The Bat!, but I don't know for sure if AVG scans other email programs without the proper plug-in.

 

I went back to using RAV, i never had a prob with it and they list over 78,000 virus's it protects against.

(just reinstall every 30 days after the trial runs out)
