Why does my pc reboot itself during large transfers?

Almost everytime I transfer large files from on Hard drive to the other during the middle of the transfer my pc decides to reboot. I got tired of doing the copy and paste thing so I used Bulletproof server (since I already had it) and Flash FXP to up load files to another hard drive. I thought at one time it was my driver for my video card so I reinstalled a later version. It worked for a while but know its doing it again.

    Please Help...

    ok, I'm a bit cornfused..

are you transferring files from one pc to another over a network or from Hard Drive to Hard Drive in one pc?

on a side note. The items in your sig would not help us very much at all in most troubleshooting scenarios.

it restarts when I try to transfer from each hardrive, or during a cd burn, or during a large file being unrared. Not all the time, just 3-4 times a day.

ok, so it's not limited to the network so it means it must be on the pc. Have you updated your chipset drivers?

Try Aida32. That should get you the model and make of your mobo.

It might be a power issue, if it isn't the chipset. Have you recently added new hardware? Do you know the wattage of your power supply? Does the system reboot when you are playing 3d games as well?

It also might be bad RAM, but that isn't too likely.

ok, it's an i840 chipset. Is this a prefab machine like a Dell or HP etc? Sometimes their drivers are different than the ones from Intel. So I want to make sure.

If you have enabled LargeSystemCache(WinNT,2k,XP,2k3 only) so the file is loaded in memory while copying, then the problem might be that one of your RAM-modules has a damaged memory cell which is accessed when the file loaded in memory.
Try a memtest if this is the case.

*Update* Also if you are using WinXP then turn off Auto-Restart and write down what is written on the blue screen of death.

    To disable LargeSystemCache:

    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Click the Switch to Classic View
    3. Open the System
    4. Go to the Advanced-tab
    5. Press Performance-Settings-Button
    6. Go to the Advanced-tab
    7. Unselect the "System Cache" option
    8. Click OK
    9. Click OK
    10. Restart the computer

    To disable Auto-Reboot:

    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Click the Switch to Classic View
    3. Open the System
    4. Go to the Advanced tab
    5. Press the Startup and Recovery-Settings-Button
    6. Uncheck the Automatically Restart of the System Failure
    7. Click OK
    8. Click OK
    9. Restart the computer

The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will usually write what kind of fatal exception that caused the crash and sometimes also what driver or application that were behind it.

    Ok...update.

I turned off the auto restart as told before. Now it just started doing the same thing. It will not give me th BSOD it still restarts. I have it unchecked and have restarted my pc several time in the past month. I have a question though, What should I have my virtual memory set up at? I have the paging file set at 1000 in each box. Is this correct? or should I change this. I was recomended to do this since I have 512 megs of Ram. I still don't get the BSOD even I have the box unchecked to restart. I have it set for a small memory dump. It has restarted a few times in the last week during large transfers overnight. 1-2 gigs at a time.
