I've been paying for mine up until last month when they expired. I came here for a free anti-virus software and today I see "Norton Virus Definitions Aug 15, 2006" on the front page.
    Why is it free here?

The definitions are basically free to download. They will not do anyone any good unless they have a valid license for the software that actually uses them. That is, the antivirus application itself must be licensed.
