Hi, I download software mainly from this site as it is secured and without any bundled programs hidden.
Of late, the downloads are slow. For example , i tried vlc media player and it started download at 40 kb speed, while my actual download speed is about 200 kb per second.
As it is slow, i tried filehippo another download site, and its download speed is 170kb, which is normal . Why?
I have removed all internet cache cookies and tried. Is there a glitch. You could try and tell me the reason for this slowness.

Just to correct your first sentence. Programs listed and with download links on MG are tested for safety and malware. BUT many freeware programs ARE bundled with adware or additional option programs and at the left hand side of links page it says if the program has adware or bundleware. It is a user's responsibility to look carefully at the installation windows and choose to UNTICK any options for additional adware/software, home page, search engine options they do NOT want. If offered it is ALWAYS best to choose 'custom install'.

As far as downloading speed, you need to try each one of the normally 3-4 download links. It may have nothing to do with the download servers at all, but your own internet connection and, to check that, you should do an online SPEEDTEST making sure all programs are closed when doing it. This site is good:

I have already tested and gave my speed in the initial post. I am careful about bundled, and i only use the word bundle to say that majorgeek is without any bundled program.
Regarding the internet speed from the other server it was near 170 kb per second which is correct. But the same download at majorgeek.com, was 40 to 50 kb per second. So , i asked this query. Please check the vlc at your browser and say whether there is a glitch

No you did not give your ISP connection test and you misunderstand.
You need to test your OWN connection at the site I gave. Then we will know if the slowness is a problem specific to your connection or your actual physical system.
I have just downloaded the latest VLC Media Player from this site and it was not slow.

GO TO WWW.SPEEDTEST.NET NOW AND WITH ALL PROGRAMS CLOSED TEST YOUR OWN CONNECTION.

Did you go to www.speedtest.net OR NOT???
You need to go there to test your own system internet. If you don't do that I can't help you anymore. When you do that you need to tell us what the results of the speednet test are.

I just downloaded VLC Media Player 2.2.4 from MajorGeeks and the download speed was up to 5.1 Mbit/sec.
BTW What modem are you using to get 200 Kbit/sec?

Didn't check my speed but the 1st link took 10 seconds to download.
The 3rd link, because it is a google play app, directs you to this page
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc

The 4th link took 17 seconds. That included the popup box asking me where i want to save, telling me I have a file by that name and do I want to replace it. (First link and 4th link are the same download).

Hi, Max, the test results of 200 kb per seconds i.e 1.7 mb speed' is from your speednet link. Hi. Eddon, it is dlink 150.
i have given the 3rd and 4th download speed in my reply.

The speednet test was for your own system internet connection speeds, as provided by YOUR Internet Service Provider, and if the figures you give were those at the end of the report by speednet, then they suggest you have pretty low bandwidth download.
That's why you are getting low download speeds, and you'll get them anywhere - even if you tried to download VLC Media player from their Source Forge download page. But only you know what exact package you are paying for, and what it offers as average/max download speeds.
But either way, it's nothing to do with the MG download links.

This is what the OP needs to tell us - the speeds shown on the result - or upload an image of it:

Hi, my concern is the difference of speed of majorgeek downloads. Normally one select these download links. The third, the first of the major links is downloading at the speed of 50 kb whereas the the fourth, the second major link gives 200 kb. Both speeds are provided by the ISP for my connection .
Is there a glitch at the 1st major download link. I think that now it is clear for max to give the thought

Hi, I do not mind about my speed. It is provided by my ISP for my cost. But , the fourth download link at the page, the second majorlink gives me 200 kb. that is the thing to look

Each of those is a link to a different server hosting that particular file. Your distance from the server, the path your download is routed through, and how many others are accessing that server are three of the many factors that will affect the download speed. On your end if you're accessing webpages, especially media rich ones, while downloading, your download speed will be affected especially with your rather limited bandwidth.

The speeds will vary from day to day and from the time of day and what the load on the the servers is.
But it is mostly negligible and the important issue is your system internet connection, not Majorgeeks servers.
You used VLC media Player as your example, if you had simply tested the VLC download at their one site - which is Source Forge - I have no doubt you would have found a similar speeds.
There is no glitch in the MG links. You have a slow internet connection via your ISP. It is as simple as that.

    Hi

As mentioned various servers can have variable speeds and be variable during the day in the case of VLC the top 2 are authors site so may depend on their server load, the 3rd is Google play with can be slow the 4th and 5th are MG servers which when I tested now the download was too quick for me to register the speed as the browser Nightly just registered 3 seconds as the download time, so likely I gained the file in 5000kb/s or thereabouts.

As said what is your upload and download capacity in your subscribed internet and who is your provider as some do cap speeds per time of day and load?
