Why have I no sound on my pc

I have an Acer Aspire 1710, I tried to re boot it using the system and recovery CDs supplied but it wouldnt work. Contacted ACER for help but they want proffo of purchase and various ither pieces of information I dont have as the computer was a hand me down, its quite a few years old but was suitable for my neds not being a computer expert. So I decided to run the recovery disc from another laptop I have been using Different operatinh system (Vista) instead of XP it seemed to load fine except I dont have any volume and not sure what to do. I ran the Everest software and I think the bewlow relates to the sound but not sure and help out there

The Acer site doesn't show this computer to be supported for Vista, but the audio driver is there.

 

Thanks the sound returned once it had finished updating the 99 microsoft updates.
