Why is there no section here for windows 8

I agree with Colemanguy and thats the reason why, as it its not out and is not even out for a public early beta or RC.

Dont know how they can say its better than Windows 7 when in all likelyhood they dont have it or if they think they do its a fake, and would imagine the internal builds are rough as anything plus may not be as quick as you'd expect as they have bug searching routines and data collection in them.

Microsoft are playing this one close to their chest and Steven Sinofsky (head of Windows division) is cautious of any information getting out about this version of Windows due to the debarcle of letting Vista out too early for novice users to test in a beta and the negative press.

Hence why the public releases are likely as in Windows 7 to be RC versions (release candidate) which are pretty much how Windows will look once released as only testing or feedback on RCs is showstopper bugs.

as for 9 and 10.. well lets get Windows.Next (I was chatting with some of the various team manager for Microsoft in Dec 10 and thats the line they have on the name) out of the way as they have not named it yet, however the likelyhood is it will be Windows 8.

But if you want a ballpark as the timeline for Windows releases is back to a 2yr ish release schedule, then lets go with

Windows.Next 8 = 2012
Windows.Next 9 = 2014
Windows.next 10 = 2016

Just wait until an announcement about a Release Candidate or Beta version that the public can download before wondering what Windows.Next/8 is like, and if you want the heads up and the chance to test any next version of Windows, Sign up at Microsoft Connect and wait until the Windows test phase is announced and join, that way you get builds of Windows to test and can feedback any bug issues or DCR's to the teams that build Windows. *there is never a guarantee that you will be picked to test a Microsoft application but never know.

 

Vista was fine, I had no issues with it on 3 PCs and multiple others I installed for friends etc

IE has nothing to do with Windows and more so Windows 7 and .next/8, it has been a seperate team for a while now.

Was it? it was a natural progression and I dont think you know how developement works for Microsoft and Windows, as the developement of the next version is a crossover from the current developed build so while Windows 7 was in beta, Windows.Next/8 was being started.

Can you site a source that says Windows 9 is in developement? as next versions not out the door yet, although I will conceed that future versions are on the drawing baord, but you need to make sure the next version works ok first before putting cart before horse.

The OEMs for drivers have now started to react better to new Windows versions and many are within the beta test program so make sure their apps or drivers work ok with new Windows versions their will always be a few that state "we will wait till RTM to release drivers" but those are the shoddy companies

Most games are a developement year behind a Windows version as they cannot plan ahead to what a Windows version maybe like as Games developement is like Windows dev, it will take 1-3yrs for planning and programming to get the game out the door and a Windows version may have been released, the games dev is not going to stop a developement schedule, they plan with backwards compatibilty in mind, which is why most games that where developed with Vista in mind work in Win7, and Win7 games will work with Windows.Next/8

They are not but they are in different developement cycles to Windows versions, some games may hit lucky and be on same track as Windows but thats rare.

I mean that I know personally of many deveopement companies (will site one in Avast who are always jumping in to make their app work with new Windows versions) in the test phases of the Windows developement builds that actively develop there drivers to work with specific new Windows OSes.

but what do you think I ment? how much do you know about Windows developement? do you beta test? if so are you on the techbeta team and if so whats your user name as I can ping you on the techbeta newsgroup/forum to chat more as its a closed group and not open to the public.

I would agree but it was not the press more it was inexperienced users that decided to test it out without knowing what a beta was, they thought they where getting a real honest to god version of windows free before nayone else and they didn not read the caveate that beta's are developement builds and may break your install of Windows and not work with your hardware and/or sofrware, the blog and forum posts killed Vista in this respect.

Vista works fine and if my at the time 4 and 7yr old neices couldnt kill the Vista OS laptop I bought them then so called techies have alot to look at themselves and their knowledge of working with OSes.


Do answer my other questions as I would love to know your source for Windows 8 and 9 and how accurate they are?
