Why isn't my harddrive fragmented?

    Hi,

I've got a 250gb harddrive on a HP laptop running Win7 64 bit. I've downloaded files to the point that there's only 30gb left on the drive, yet it shows 0% fragmentation when analyzed. Auto defrag was turned off a long time ago. Why isn't my harddrive fragmented?

Also, any suggestions for software for burning mp4/mov files to dvd to watch in a dvd player?

Thanks a bunch for any help.

    Hi

NTFS is a very good file system and copes with fragmentation very well, even without the aid of a defrag app, I have to say the inbuilt defragger is good. There could be a number of reasons to why it says zero, it may not actually be zero, but could also be that you have not installed and uninstalled, moved around many large files etc as I don't know your computing habbits.

But try this free defragger and see what it says of your fragmentation level % majorgeeks.com/Auslogics_Disk_Defrag_d5266.html

I too use Auslogics Defrag, daily.
Sometimes the amount of defragmentation surprises me.

I have attached a partial screen shot of one days amount of defragmentation despite daily defragging.

Believe Vista and 7 defrag when idle regardless, here we usually set XP to not optimize disk when idle with tweakui, if it is set that way, as 3rd part software used for that OS.
