when i send my pic via hotmail, the link just HANGS. but if i cut/paste the URL from the VERY window which is hanging, it works just fine in a new one!

i REALLY don't get this. to my mind, the two windows now have matching URLs -- yet one works, one doesn't.

here's the link, but of course, it doesn't work from HERE either!!

    http://www.fobpro.com/photos/avn0602/full/avn0602f3358.jpg

cut/paste to the next tab over, and -- presto magico! -- no problem whatsoever!!

I tried your link directly from your post here.

    The page that opens displays:
The here link is the same address, as you said.

When the address is put into the address bar and I press ENTER, it works. :confused

Same thing is true for the tinyURL version:

    http://tinyurl.com/ckhrvyn

i don't get that found/moved message at all. just a hang.

actually, from here it's some intermediary "viglink" page hanging. that's normal for MG, right? (viglink pass-thru, not the hang)

from hotmail it's the page (fobpro) itself.

Have you tried renaming the file and moving it to a different directory?

The address shown in your original post is not the "resulting" address, so I don't know what is happening with that.

THIS is NOT the same photo.

Are you trying to post this photo of a girl?

None of the links you posted work for me, either. I'm not sure what the issue is, but mine works for me, and seems like the same link.

Actually, now the original link works as well, so it's obviously in my cache.

For me the link doesn't load but the URL changes to "stolengif", so perhaps it is a permission issue with that particular link?

I'd just save the pic to your HD then upload it to imgur.com and link to that copy.

um, yes, in all my glory, but why are you "clarifying" things with my same link?

doesn't work in your post any more than it works in mine!

    ------
sach: i just sent it as an attachment. more a matter of just wanting to KNOW at this point.

and no "stolengif" on MY end -- just a HANG. is that some MONITORING program you've got triggering that? after all, you still have "problem loading page" up top, even in yours.

do you get "stolengif" for a normal 404 as well?

I wasn't 'clarifying' anything, I was seeing if it worked the same since this thread was reported to see if something was wrong with links. Since it worked after I clicked on it (and still does), I figured it was on your end...clearly that was not the case....so knock it off with your smartass attitude.

well, then, you shuda said so!

your post clearly gives the impression you've posted a NEW, CORRECTED, link. i spent an hour trying to spot the difference.

and, no, NEITHER of them seem to work for ANY of us other than you. what's the trick?!

At the bottom of my post I said "Actually, now the original link works as well, so it's obviously in my cache." The links all work for me.

No monitoring program that is coming from their website. You can see the URL is there address and then the graphics folder and that stolengif file. In firefox the address bar goes from the correct URL to about:blank then finally to the stolengif address.

It is odd because now it is loading for me in both FF and IE. And it still loads even after clearing my FF cache. I don't know what is going on with it.

    wait a min...am i being PUNK'D?!

i just noticed MJNC's post in which he/she also posts the link YET AGAIN, this time explicitly STATING it's a different url!!

ok, maybe that wasn't YOUR intent, laura (for which i apologize), but what of mjnc? what am i missing here?? to my eyes, the url is, YET AGAIN, exactly the same.

    :confused

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Same symptoms here - I got the "stolengif" at first, but now I get the full picture no matter what...I also get the attached thumbnail when trying to access the tinyURL link, and it's the same message that I got when I first tried to view the pic...

    Weird...

I can't tell you what's going on. I think it's the site. After I cleared my cache, as sach did, the links no longer work. He is also correct on the url redirecting to stolen.gif. It did the same for me.

If I were to make a guess, I'd say they somehow set it up so that people can't use the links as it eats up bandwidth for them and they are heavy on the graphics with all the model shots. Either that, or they just don't want linking.

Also, you are trying to link to the jpeg within a php page. I'd bet there is coding to disallow it and cause the redirect.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Could very well be the case - I have seen such "disallow" scripting, especially within 3D CAD layouts. Some of those schematics are in the hundreds of gigabytes range!

    ah, now we're getting somewhere!

i dunno about PHP, but the pic was on an HTML page with "previous" "next" etc above it, and maybe captions below. i just shook off the frame by snagging the JPG link via copy shortcut or the like. (which worked fine, unlike some pages which block that)

of course that still doesn't address why the EXACT SAME LINK is accessible no problem if posted in the next tab. or does it?

moreover, now i'm curious as to why it hangs for some of us, yields "stolengif" for some of us, yields "found...moved" for some of us, does or does not show up for some of us when cut/pasted directly, and does or does not show up for some of us before or after cache is cleared.

and whats this "viglinks" thing, intermediary on the popups? (even the good ones). is that an MG feature or something on my own end (popup-blocker? virus?)?

    Good morning...

Can shed no further light upon the accessibility anomalies...

As far as the "viglinks" are concerned: http://www.viglink.com/. Maybe whatever popup-blocking you have running is clashing with any viglink action the MajorGeeks pages might have installed? I don't know.

It's probably good that it doesn't work on the forum, see http://www.fobpro.com/copyright.php, otherwise
BTW, there is a way to obtain a clickable link, though I'll spare the forum the humiliation. ;)

The blocking relies on the HTTP referer. Pasting the link into the address bar etc = no referer = successful connection.

i really don't understand these sites saying you can't "download" pictures. the fact that you've got it on your screen indicates you've ALREADY downloaded -- now it's just a matter of getting it from one part of your PC to another. or from one FORM to another.

when you actively seek out t0rrents or p2p, i can see that you are "grabbing" something. but when they're openly displaying the item in the first place, they're already authorizing you to download it!

i wonder if any of the piracy lawsuits have been successfully defended on this point? that there is nothing inherently wrong with "saving" that which is already in some "temp" file on your PC anyways.

j/c. i'll have a word with my manager about it.

in the meantime, this VIGLINKS thing is bugging me...izzat something MG is dong? or the very definition of a "hijack"?

You Can download it...and save it to your computer. What you can Not do is link to it from their site, sell it, or use it to display elsewhere. It is the property of the photographer. I haven't looked closely at the whole site, but it seems a business. If you do use it in ways it's not intended, they could probably take action...whether you agree or not.

Again, if you look, you are allowed to use it for 'non-commercial personal use'. That would mean saving it to your computer would be fine.

Yes, VigLinks is part of Major Geeks. The site is large and the use is free to members. It costs a lot of money to run, therefore the use of advertising tools are utilized to help pay for it. That's what viglink is.

i meant in the general case. u kno, sites that block rt click/save pic? or add on some weird FRAME to thwart same?

once the pic is ON MY SCREEN, i've *already* saved it, in the tempfile sense.

it's like e-coups that say "cannot be photocopied". LOL. and my PRINTOUT is what?

That link worked for me, mp3 of 6.34MB.
What do you mean by locks up? Does it just get to ~100kb and not progress any further?
By DLer, I assume you mean your browser. Do you have another browser you could try using?

edit: Successful on both Waterfox and IE9.

yes, shortly after changing to "no resume" blue [see next].

actually, i meant orbit. it only gets to 4k in the default IE and FF DLers.

i'm on wifi today and i'm getting 40%+. is it possible that it just has a really really SHORT timeout? (like 30 sec)

do the 2 ppl here who SUCCEEDED in snagging it have particularly FAST connections? i mean, over and above everyone else?

I have a decent connection: Advertised at 30Mbps down and 5Mbps up. Of course this varies by server and distance. For close servers I typically see 22 - 28 down and 4+ up.

radioechoes.com seems to be in Minnesota, USA - a distance that I would expect to be close to what I get for nearby servers when I test.

I saw 24Mbps down the last time I tried it and a ping time of 80ms

Speedtest.net is a good one, there are others. Also ping time will tell you how good your connection is, the lower the number on this the better. Rule of thumb, under 50 is very good, 50 - 100 decent enough, above 100 starts to be a sign of a bad (slow) connection. you can expect all the numbers to be better the closer the server is to you.

    Hi Tiera

At times some hosted picture URLs may not show on some websites due to potential adult content of the sites they are hosted on are adult in nature, the one you are using for your screen work is an adult one and hence likely not going to show always.

I think as some have mentioned its a cut and paste of the url that will work, personally the url you have for your images HERE should work with email, but then some sites do not like hot-linking and the re-direct can lead astray.

I would advise anyone and any friend and I have many who are models or in the media to attach their actual picture or resume file from their PCs saved docs for promotional matters over a saved on the internet as urls can change and that is not good for promotional purposes

  31. CatT

CatT I can't follow the rules

no can do. i don't own the copyright - i'd get in more trouble DLing and emailing a copy than i would trying to link to the JPG sans PHP frame.

plus i look FAT in that pic. think i'll just bag the whole thing and start anew.
