Why won't the computer connect and surf

    Hi newbie here.

    I have a linksys wireless-G 2.4Ghz router that has 4 wired ports as well. In the past, I would make static IPs for the computer so I would not get a violation of IP's, if that makes sense. My desktop did not have wireless, so I would plug it into the wired port, and even that took a while. It would not allow me to take a IP automatically or DNS automatically, and I had to enter in some addresses.

    Now I live in a new place, and the cable outlet is nowhere near the den where I want to use the computer, I decided to get a network usb adapter. So I got a Belkin N wireless (although maybe that is a bit too much when I only have a G router) and set it up.

    Again, if I don't put in a static IP, it keeps searching "acquiring IP address" If I put in a static Ip address, it will actually connect, but still won't allow me to go on the internet. I suspect it may have to do with my original router settings, but what the hell do I know:cry

    right now the computer is working being plugged into the wireless router and I have to use static ip:

    Ip 192.168.1.2
    sub 255.255.255.0
    def 192.168.1.1

    DNS: 64.59.144.90
    DNS: 64.59.144.91

    however when I use the wireless and type in these settings, it doesn't work
