Heehaa finally a smart user.......i have used the internet for 5 years with windows totally malware FREE......most people do not understand the basis of how malware operates and infects computers because they simply could not be stuffed researching and working it out for themselves....they think that because they have paid for an antivirus program, that this should be enough.......please.......spare me!

Wonder where Windows got the idea of windows from?

Microsoft has taken the strategies of the Borg very much to heart, assimilating, buying, taking by force, annihilating companies, names, technologies, adding them to their own perfection. As with the "Smith" problem in the Matrix, at some point, it's so invasive as to be completely out of control. Of course, this would only bother someone who doesn't wish to be assimilated. Assimilation policies ultimately led to the downfall of the Soviet Union, because there were simply enough people in the world left with their eyes open who didn't want to be assimilated by an impersonal machinery.

I know my comments are not technically oriented, but I don't like being simply gone over anyway. :p

    Xerox, believe it or not.

Xerox, when they invented GUI (including the mouse), decided they were a copy machine company, and GUI (Graphic User Interface) wasn't worth pursuing. I think Apple was the first company to pick up on it after that, but I'm not sure about that assurtion.

You can bet there are some execs quietly kicking themselves on that one. They could have owned ALL the patent rights.

Xerox also invented the mouse if memory serves?

That's the way I remember it. I remember a video of the early setups, the mouse was an upside down project box. Looked odd, but it worked. I think the TV show I was watching was a documentary about computers, they were talking about Apples attempt to sue MS over Windows. It kinda fell through when it came out Xerox was the inventor (if not the patent holder), and not Apple.

I suspect Apple was smart enough to protect what was thiers in the early days. Remember the Franklin Ace? If IBM had done the same there would probably still be 5 or so different brands of computers, all different. As it is they got to set the standards.

A very sound point nitecrawler. Linux is not for the careless. I liked your post. A lot of people don't consider that aspect of using a Linux system.

Please don't mistake me for a MS fan-boy though.
