So I've been getting some pretty wierd issues with running my OS. Although I'm not too sure if it's completely a software issue than it is a hardware issue. The problem is that whenever I load data off my hard drive while there's sound playing (like music in winamp) I noticed that the sound starts to crap out and fizzles out sometimes. Other times when I'm watching a movie clip I notice there is static and sometimes the sound just gets distorted. But I find usually when I'm loading a program or something like that the sound really starts to mess up. So I'm wondering if this is a software issue or more of a hardware issue. Has anyone ever had this issue, if so, what are some steps to clearing this matter? Thanks in advance :)

What are the specifications for your system?

What kind of information the specs do you need specifically?

I guess I'll just list it's hardware and OS specs.

    -Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

    -Pentium Core Duo @ 2.2ghz
    -2gb DDR3 ram
    -200gb Hitachi, 200gb Maxtor HD
    -EMU1212 Soundcard
    -Nvidia Geforce 7800

Should I post a Hijack this file as well?

hmm well your hardware is certainly good enough i would think. im not really a specialist in this sort of thing, so i'd wait until the right person sees this thread

Sure. It's an Abit IL9Pro with an Intel Core Duo 2 Chip @ 2.1ghz. It uses the Intel 945P/ICH7 chipset.

Can anyone here at least give me a suggestion?

I have a small soundclip of what it sounds like when my sound craps out. Again, the sound usually craps out when I load a program or run hd activity.

    here's the clip: http://www.zshare.net/audio/194765077635327f/

I know a lot of you probably just skim over this but I'm gonna try again...

So I ran a diagnostics test on my memory and everything ran fine and it passed just fine. I also ran a HD diagnostic check up and both of my hard drives passed as well. So I'm wondering what the issue could be. It SEEMS like it would be a HD issue, since whenever I load something everything starts to slow down. But so far I can only nab it down to sound card, mother board, or cpu. And although I don't know how I'd troubleshoot to see if it was my CPU or Mobo, my only trial right now would be to test my sound card...

I'm wondering if it could also be a virus...

Can anyone here offer any type of response??

I assume it di work once? How long ago and for how long?

Type DXdiag into the run box and check your directX settings.

Also Does Device Manager show any problems with the sound card?
Does it offer any rollback drivers?

I ran all tests through directX settings and everything came out fine.

Device Manager shows no issues besides recognizing an unknown PCI device. Now I don't know why it's telling me this since I haven't installed anything into any PCI slots. I tried updating/rollback the drivers but it says windows cannot find the drivers it needs to install. So I really don't know what that is...

    Get this http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html
and it will identify the unknown PCI device. I've run this program to find drivers for items unknown when I checked the hardware.
