Hello Majors,i have a problem regarding a file. While on mirc last night,i was chatting with some people on a WoW Server Mirc.I clicked on a link given by an unknown person(i dont remember him).I got a file that looks like a picture on my desktop and i cant actually do anything to delete it.Here it is :http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/1234/badbl5.jpg And the only options i have are, View,Edit,Print, shred file, open as and send. The thing is that i cannot edit, shred it or delete. It doesnt even have "Properties" and im very confused with this, and extremely pissed off.I installed programs that delete items for good, and they come up with : http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/9158/2fh9.jpg . It says that its not valid, also i tried restoring windows but it failed.

Please, can you help me get rid of this *item*?

    Thank you for reading this.

Hi try one or all of the below options to delete this errant files,

    1. Pocket Killbox
    2. MoveOnBoot this one, once you dragNdrop the file or browse for its location, deletes the file on reboot, so any applications that have locked the file are not running so cannot lock it before deletion.. my fav!
    3. Unlocker

Thank you for posting back, but unfortunately none of the 3 programs Worked. The 1st program couldn't help, but the last 2 said the same message as in this photo http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/9158/2fh9.jpg. In Translation, the last sentence means " this name of file is not valid ".Doesn't Say anything about being used by other programs.

Please follow the steps in the below link to install and run ShowNew

    Using ShowNew

Attach the requested newfiles.txt log to your next message. If you don't know how to attach files, see this: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Well that log did not show any files on your Desktop! They all must have file dates older than 90 days and therefore do not show. I will make a modified version of ShowNew and attach it here that you can download and run and then attach a new log. However, you should try install the below and then boot into safe mode and see if it can delete this file from your Desktop. Let me know what happens.

    ExplorerXP

Did that work? If not then get a log from the new attached ShowNewDT.zip file. Extract it into the same folder where you put ShowNew.bat. You will now have a ShowNewDT.bat file. Run it and attach the newfiles.txt log created by it..

You have two antivirus programs installed (Avira and Norton) you need to uninstall one of these.

Also you have Messenger Plus! Live installed. We HIGHLY recommed that this never be installed. It is the cause of tens of thousands of PCs being infected with malware.

What is this program you have installed: SUPER ? Version 2006.19 (FIX)

You also need to install the current version of Sun Java and uninstall the old one. The below instructions tell you how to do this.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

The program SUPER is a converter i found on a forum a month ago.Converts whatever kinda of music and video you want to an other format.

The program you gave me failed to delete it aswell.Extremely wierd actually,it keeps on saying "Cannot delete this file" ,even in safe mode.

Also,i uninstalled 3 and 6 and installed 10,the J2SE as you instructed me.

i cant upload tje file, it says" newfiles.txt:
You have already attached this file in thread : Wierd Problem " . Maybe because both have the same content? I tried changing name to "Newfiles-updated" but same prob :S

The only way they would have the same content is if you did not run the new scan. Check 12 lines down from the top of the newfiles.txt log you are trying to upload. Does it have the same date and time as your previous log? If so, you need to run the new scan from ShowNewDT.bat

Your previous log had the below at line 12:
    It's Fri December 8, 2006 02:46:06 PM

Now that is strange. The log says that there are no files at all on Jason's or the AllUsers desktops:

This does not make any sense if the image you post earlier is for the user account named Jason! It obviously did show Desktop icons.

    Please download Blacklight Beta
    • Download blbeta.exe and save it to the Desktop.
    • Once saved... double click blbeta.exe to install the program.
    • Click accept agreement and Click scan
This app too may fire off a warning from antivirus. Let the driver load.
      Wait for it to finish.
    • If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
    • It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl....big number
Please post contents of the BlackLight log.

Here is the log.It is very weird that it is undetectable. Its on my desktop and everything and still nothing.Ans also it doesn't seem to have a format.ExplorerXP didn't show it as a JPEG or at least a picture format.

    Nothing found by BlackLight either!

Click Start, Run and enter cmd and click OK. Now enter the below commands.

    cd "C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop"
    attrib -r -h -s *.* <--- there are spaces between -r -h -s and also before the *.*
    dir

Do you get a list of files? If so, then do the below command.
    dir > c:\dtfiles.txt

Then upload the C:\dtfiles.txt file as an attachment.

    So i type: 1)C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop
    2)attrib -r -h -s .
    3)dir
    ?
I get a list of files in C:\Docements and Settings\Jason
But when i type *C:\Docements and Settings\Jason\Desktop* it brings up an error.I says thats it isn't recognised as a interior or exterior command, run able program.

    Step 1 says: cd "C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop" not C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop

    Step 2 says: attrib -r -h -s *.* not attrib -r -h -s .

There was no such step. What are you referring too?

    I need the c:\dtfiles.txt attachment

We might be getting closed because today, while downloading some songs that i needed,i came across a 16mb one so its big.Now to the point, when i previewed it in Limewire i could listen to it.After it got saved on my desktop,it started behaving like that picture we are dealing with.I can't listen to it,drag it,delete it or view properties. Both of these files (the image and this song)have long file names.Probably getting closed since i healthy file on Limewire got somewhat corrupted.Anyways here is the File.

You gave me the directory list for the wrong folder.

    I asked you to enter C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop not C:\Documents and Settings\Jason

It is hard to determine what I'm looking at in the file you posted since it does not translate well into english for me to understand.

By the way why are you downloading files to your Desktop at all! An even better questions is why are you using Limewire! At this point I have to say your problems are not malware but just what software you are running and how you are using it.
