Wifi dropping on XP

    All,

I have 3 computers that I use regularly. All 3 are wirelessly connected to my router. The first is a 2007 Macbook Pro. The 2nd is a Dell Latitude D600 running XPSP3. The 3rd is something I put together myself a few years ago running XPSp3.

The router in question is a Netgear WNDR3400. The channel the two XP devices are connecting to are an unsecured G channel. The Mac connects via 5khz N.

Both the XP laptop and the XP box experience wifi "disconnecting" itself, and then reconnecting again a moment later. The disconnections appear to be load-based (IE if I'm actually trying to do something).

So mine (and yours) first thoughts immediately go to the router's 2.4ghz channel, right? Well, to throw fire into the mix, my wife's Win7 laptop, win 7 desktop, both of our ipod touches, and my nokia L900 all connect to the 2.4ghz channel and none of them are experiencing dropouts. Thus, I suspect some sort of foul play somewhere within XP itself.

When I pull up Event Viewer, I see that the Wireless Zero Connection service is starting and stopping roughly once-per-second for 10 seconds or so before I get a TCPIP-sourced error that says:
The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{C7785A8E-2271-4FB2-8AF4-945F83427A29} was disconnected from the network, and the adapter's network configuration has been released. If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned. Please contact your vendor for updated drivers.

I get the same error (though different address on the XP laptop obviously) on the laptop as well.

The drivers are all as up to date as possible, so that isn't the issue. I've tried one other fix that I've seen on the internet (network connections -> wireless adapter -> configure -> power management -> disable shut off of device) but only the box had the option, not the laptop, and it had no effect.

    Thoughts? Thank you!
