I have a large SSD drive that I"ve used for data storage. I needed a file from it since my main system crashed last summer and I don't have these files put on my drive yet.

I found the file - but couldn't print it. It seems that when I plugged in the SSD drive (in a case) via my USB port - it caused my wi-fi to stop. Once I figured that out and disconnected the SSD drive - the wi-fi was restored.

I don't know where to even look to figure this out. something on my SSD drive? something in the bios somewhere?

HP "Z420; currently 8gb ram. SSD installed in system (240gb drive). USB 3.0 is where I plugged it in.

    thank you.

According to the description and specs for the Z420, it does not come with wifi. Did you add an adapter? And if so, is it USB?

If the SSD has its own power supply, make sure you are using that.

Have you tried different ports for both the SSD drive and the wifi adapter? This is particularly important if the SSD gets its power from the USB port.

Go to device manager and check the properties on all your USB devices power control, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off...
Helps sometimes. Did Windows give any indication of a power issue on the port when you plugged anything in?
