:banghead: I purchased and had installed WiFi and router. I was having to run far too much dsl cable to connect modem to phone jack, and the work station was beginning to get cluttered.
Tech installed all, and it it working.
However, one of the problems of clutter is now more so. I now have a router, and a powered multi-port USB, and their respective connector wires, added to the area that already had the computer, the modem, a monitor, printer, external speakers, power cords, converters, and connector cords.
Place looks like the local charity-run used computers store.
Where might I find a simple explanation on how to move and reconnect the WiFi/router/modem to another area.
I Googled and found some sites, but they were far more complicated than I believe I need, had explanations of explanations, and links listed that would keep one busy for years.
    Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks,
    Skysarge

Modem and router can go to any close by phone jack, assuming you are using the wifi wireless connection. Can be a room or two away depending on how strong the signal is.

    Tim,
It took a bit of being Dick Tracy, but I figured out what the tech did.
He did not put the modem/router where I wanted. Guess that is not part of this job description.
He set it up, checked it out, had power cables and connector wires going everywhere, then left.
I need to modify anyway, an area where this is going to relocate, to have a phone jack and a power outlet. So, where it is now makes little difference.
Thanks for help. Should you need help or info in the future on ground warfare, please let me know. I know Amy, I don't know diddly about computers

It may or may not be related, but I want to follow up on this.
All is hooked up, and the WiFi is working.
However, it seems that the time needed to access sundry sites is sometimes exceedingly long now.
Even moving around sites seems to be a slow process.
For lack of any ideas why, I ran Avast anti-virus boot-time scan. No anomalies.
What might I need to look for or what action might remedy this?
    Thank you,

Is your ISP new? Does it include an av program?
I ask because Comcast includes Norton or McAfee. One of my users has ESET NOD32 installed and the combo of the two was really slowing everything down.
