I know alot of you will probably laugh at me, thats ok...I can take it :) I am not computer savvy at all, and am only on my 2nd computer which is an IBM think center with Windows XP . Back when I was in school we couldnt use calculators in Math class(this might give you some idea of my perspective ;))I use AOL for my internet connection, simply because it is easy to use...lol. I am using, AOL's anti virus program(which i think is McAfee, and Lavasofts adaware.) Needless to say, I am in way over my head when it comes to understanding your instuctions for removing all the crap which causes pop ups etc. Call me naive, but I thought if I had an antivirus program, and spyware removal I would be just fine. Ok so now Im red-faced, but I know Im infected. For example when I search files for cookies after removing cookies, I see unisoft ad stuff all over the place. Anyway, if I save my important files onto floppies, then do a sytem recovery(IBM/Lenovo tech support will walk me through this on the phone) will that solve my problems or do these bugs follow me from my documents? Can I take my computer to a tech place to remove this stuff for me.
I know I wont be able to figure this stuff out on my own, and I dont have 3 or 4 days to spend trying(it took me hours just to figure out ad-aware). Other than giving up do you have any advice for a totally non computer geek who feels like she is drowning).

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com, please follow our simple cleaning procedures:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifAfter doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
    • Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif In your next post, please make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order:
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
    • Bitdefender (Step 6)
    • Panda Scan (Step 6)
    • HijackThis

Start from the beginning and read thru it, it's very simple to understand. If you do not understand a step just ask me and I will further explain it.

Be sure you run the online scans, they are very important in the removal of malicious items.
