Or do I have to unistall then reinstall them all? I live way out in BFE, so I have bad phone lines and dialup. It takes forever to download, so I was hoping for a shortcut.

I'm not sure what you are talking about doing.

Are you saying you already have tools (what tools) installed in their default folders and want to move the folders someplace else on your drive?
First I have to ask why? What purpose is that going to serve?

In most cases it will not work because registry settings expect the programs to be in the folders in which they were installed.

I already have most of the tools listed in the do first post, but some are in their own default folders and some were saved to a documents folder. Some of the tools I have are cws, spybot, spyware blaster, ...the do first post said they need to be in a C:\ folder

There is a difference between the downloaded files and the actual installed programs.
I think what you are saying is you downloaded the files already. In reality we do not care where you download them to. That statement in the READ ME is trying to just help you save things in an easily understandable location for possible future reference.

It is where you install them to and run the installed program from that matters.

well, I usually delete the download after I install...so I'll have to download again to install anywhere else. The READ ME post said that some tools won't work effectively if they are in documents folder.

Where did you install the programs to?

And exactly which programs are you referring too?

Why didn't you just install them to their default installation folders suggested by the installation program.

ok it just says "( It is not a good idea to download them to any folder within C:\Documents and Settings.) " except HJT, it is in the C directory. So, the others are ok where they are?

I installed spybot, spyware blaster, and cws to my documents in a folder I created to keep them organized (like you said above)

That is not the default installation folder for Spybot or Spyware Blaster. And I did not say to put them there.

    Spybot's default installation folder is C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy

    SpywareBlaster'sdefault installation folder is C:\Program Files\SpywareBlaster

CWShredder does not have require installation. It can be run anywhere but putting programs in your Documents and Settings folder is not a good idea. First it is neither a document or a setting. It is a program that you would like to be able to run from any user account on the PC. That means you definitely do not want them in a Documents and Settings subfolder of any user account.

Are you having malware problems? If so, just run them from where you have installed them now. You can fix them later. But make sure you do not install HijackThis in and subfolder of Documents and Settings (this includes the Desktop) and also it must not be in a Temp folder. It is best to put it where we suggest in the READ & RUN ME sticky (i.e., the full path of executable file should look like this C:\Program File\HJT\hijackthis.exe )

first: you don't have to be so hateful
second: I was referring you what you said in the post about saving things in an easy to find location
third: thank you for what help you have provided
fourth: no reply is necessary...I'm done with dealing with people today
fifth: feel free to delete this entire topic I created

    No one is being hateful!

The READ & RUN ME does not not tell you where to INSTALL the programs! It suggests where you should DOWNLOAD the programs to (the suggested download folders were C:\Spyware Tools or C:\Downloads ). Sounds like you are having a problem understanding the difference between downloading and installing. There is a big difference between the two.

But as you said suggested.... no sense dealing with this anymore today.
