I think you missed the point on this . . . or maybe I misunderstand your intent . . . the troopers in this pic were responding to Kerry's "botched" joke (as his handlers named it . . . I still can't discern his intended punch line). Our men and women in uniform are the brightest and the most squared away people I know . . . and I know a good many of them. Seems everyone is having an opinion, so here's Tony Blair's, which I support...

    Subject: Tony Blair quote

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American
sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister
Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his
Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he
    said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many
want in... And how many want out." Only two defining forces have ever
    offered to die for you:

    1. Jesus Christ
    2. The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.

Very, very well said, Lev. You made the point I was trying to make, and you hit it square on.

God bless our men and women in uniform - and those of our allies. They are among the brightest and most talented souls on this planet.

They should have never been there ( that particularly country) to begin with. It was retribution for his father's botched attempt with the gulf war.
If Bush was truly after the cause of the 9-11 disaster he would have gone into Afghanistan, he would have also waited for the support of the United Nations who at that time were not finished with they're search for the mythical weapons of mass destruction. They didn't belong there then and they don't belong there now. America seems to be so arrogant we believe the whole world should live as we do. Well thats impossible in most places where the mass majority makes a fraction to live on as we do. This is turning into another Viet Nam, The very same people who defended Bush's action are now fed up with the lives that are being lost - that have been lost and will continue to be lost until the finger of fault is pointed in another direction. He (Bush) is so arrogant so self assured he actually makes jokes about the unfounded weapons. The man is an imbecile and so are those who follow him thinking there will be something to gain in the long run. They spend billions when that is coincidently the amount of monies it would take to put into our schools. Not billions once but how many times now? I don't even watch the news any more it's so frustrating so sad so wrong. The news, now that's a whole other story in itself being you hear what the government approves, the rest is made up. That has been proven, in fact there are those who are trying to get it on the voting ballot. Then on the other hand if it does get approved by voters, it will be taken to court deemed unconstitutional. so- SHIT!

The reason they pick boys, always have. They are at an impressionable age, a lot not even out of high school, they really believe they are saving our country. Talk to those same boys when and if any of them make it back home. Even though not physically impaired they will never be the same.
John Kennedy had it planned for those people to return home before it got nasty, before their civil war began. He died to soon to impalement his plan. Then Johnson took over, the rest is history, very bad history. We are producing more bad history right now.

Yes, Natakel, they were making fun of Kerry. I know a few of the men and women who are there from this troop. They are proud soldiers, doing a job they were sent to do. Whether you agree or disagree with them being there, they deserve our support and gratitude.

No question they deserve any and all respect, they are courageous people. Above all they need to be home in my opinion.
I can not phathom going to war in this day and age though. I know we always have and probably will some more. We should be past killing, prejudice, hate. I am so naive when I heard that Bush was pushing to go in with military and no support from the UN, I thought surly the people will stop it, how wrong was I?
People are beginning to march just as they did for the Viet Nam troops. It was that action that finally brought an end to the war. The people will make it happen. Sorry, stuck on my soap box here.

More than 100,000 protesters flooded Washington on Saturday to stage dual demonstrations against the U.S.-led war in Iraq and economic globalization, before coming together to demand President George W. Bush bring troops home.

Impressive to who? If I was G.I out there and got to see those photos, I would be extremely upset that my own country I was fighting for didn't support and appreciate my dedication to my choice to protect the rights and freedom of my country and others.

Darlene, while I admire your enthusiasm for your beliefs, people blaming Bush is en vogue, so people do it. I know, Global Warming wasn't around until he took office, hurricanes didn't strike populated areas until he took office, gas prices never rediculously increased until he took office (remember 1976?), unpopular wars never occurred until he took office, oil never controlled the global economy like it does until he took office...get where I'm headed with this? I agree he's not been the brightest crayon in the presidential box, but contrary to uninformed belief he does not control the world. I eagerly await the next presidential election when a democrat is likely to win more as a result of spite than platform; if a dem pres starts a "police action", is it likely to be more justified then? And will it be supported equally as this one is not?

The world is what it is, and people are what they are, and change is not a likely scenario.

Do you remember the United Nations asking him to wait? He didn't care for anyones concern he forged ahead anyway. The 70's was under Richard (tricky Dicky) Nixon. as for natural disasters thats a stretch don't ya think? Busch bashing is in vogue because the man's an idiot.

I have a feeling this thread is going to be closed, as it is getting heated, but I just want to say a few words.
I will not say how I feel about the war, one way or the other. My feelings are for the men and women over in Iraq and other countries. They deserve our support. I posted the picture because what Kerry said was terrible about our men and women over in Iraq. They are NOT stupid, not even close. I am proud of the fact that these men showed Kerry how they felt about HIM, not the war.
I want our troops, back, yes. But, while they are there, I will support them and do what I can to help them when they return.

The man also was elected president of the United States...may you have equal success in your endeavours.

No, I don't think anything I posted was a stretch; I was just trying to rationally make my point, which after 4+ years of being a member here is getting increasingly harder to do. No wonder my ignore list has 20-something people on it.

You have your feelings on the man and the situations and I have mine, we differ, and we are both entitled to that. Residents in some countries don't have that luxury; you say something negative, and the consequences are not pretty.

By the way, you'll have to come up with better argumentary material with me than bringing up the United Nations; in my opinion, it's the most useless organization on the planet.

Like as not we are stuck in Iraq. If we leave too soon we have created what we most ardently did not want.

I was against the invasion to begin with. Now we are there I'm against leaving too soon (and I'll settle for a Iraq Government that will last, I don't think there can be a real victory). I suspect due to the past incompetence it may not be possible, but we have to try.

Afgahnistan has always been the just war, but people tend to lump them together. The way some folk in the US talk they are neighbors, and don't seem to realize they have a sea between them.

I blame Bush and all his cronies, as well as Congress, for Iraq. It was obvious to anyone who was paying attention the WMD issue was lies, and more damn lies.

I believe that as soon as the troops pull out of Iraq a civil war will break out against the Sunni and Shiite Muslim groups over control of Iraq since it will be a weaker country and vulnerable.

Exactly - and anyone who thinks that picture was a sign of discontent among our soldiers is missing the point. It was a brilliant jab at Kerrys bizarre inference that our troops are uneducated. I thought the troops did a fantastic job at blowing it right back in Kerrys face. They certainly have more class then he does.

God bless, our troops - from the past, present, and future. They Rock!

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

Simple. Most of them believe that what they're doing over there is worthwhile. Many of them, after serving their time there, VOLUNTEER to return to Iraq to keep helping. Protests that bleat "bring them home" are loudly saying that what they're doing there isn't worth it. Isn't worth their effort, their risks, their dead buddies, not worth anything. They KNOW that if we simply pull out now, there will be a bloodbath, much as there was after we pulled out of Viet Nam. Few remember THAT. Our press didn't cover that, and didn't care. But our enemies notice. They believe that the U.S. doesn't have the resolve to finish anything it starts. Just wait us out and we'll eventually lose interest and go away. The protesters are re-inforcing that belief.

I feel I need to clear something up - I feel I may have confused a couple of people with my posts.

@gal1988, my comments about the picture you posted were directed at darlene1029, because of the comments she made below concerning that picture (I knew you understood that the troops were getting back at Kerry)

@darlene1029, my comments directed at you were not intended to be snippy, if they came across that way. I was really confused about what you meant, and where you were going with your post, and just wanted clarification. I was in a bit of a hurry when I sent that post, and on re-reading it I can see where it may have been confusing. If your comments were not about that photo, then I apologise.

You certainly have every right to feel the way you do, and I have every right to disagree with it - and I certainly do. I agree with GT that most of our troops believe that what they are doing is worthwhile. We have an all volunteer armed service, don't forget that. I went into the military at age 19 - I was neither naive nor coerced into doing it. I considered the oath you must take very seriously, and knew what the consequences of that oath could be. By the grace of God I never had to venture into harms way - but I understood this was a possibility. The world in 1980 was a pretty volatile place then too. You shouldn't sell our troops short because they are young - being young doesn't mean you don't have a brain.

At any rate, I didn't want to leave anyone confused about my intent, in case there was confusion.
