Will Superspeed Usb Cable Connect To My Laptops?

I am considering purchasing a Western Digital My Passport 1TB external drive. The drive comes with a "SuperSpeed USB cable". My Windows 7 laptop (9+ years old) has USB 2.0 ports with type A connector. My Windows 10 laptop (new) has USB 3.0 ports with type A connector.

Is my understanding correct that the SuperSpeed USB cable has a type A connector on one end that would connect to either of my laptops, and a USB 3.0 type B connector on the other end that would connect to the external drive?

    Thank you.

Your external drive must also support USB 3.0 for the SS cable to have max effect with the 10 laptop only!

It will connect, it just won't run at Superspeed.
6 of my 8 WD drives come with USB 3.0 cables. None of our aging computers have USB 3 ports. I can use the drives with all the computer with no problem.
The connect on the WD side is a micro B type cable.
