Will This Soundbar Work With My Television

    Hi all,

I've asked similar questions because I have yet to find a way to get some decent sound out of my TV. My sister recently bought a soundbar, and they are so happy with it, I want to check it out for a possible "fix" for my sound (or lack thereof)

I have a Sanyo, 32" flatscreen and I'll just attach photos of my connections/inputs on the back. I'll also place a link to the Soundbar I am interested in. Of course the fellow I talked to at Walmart assures me it has all I need to connect to my TV as I explained what I could to him.

I think I trust you guys/gals direction better, much better so here I am;)

Do you think or know these two will work together, and if not, any suggestions on a soundbar from my TV?

Thanks so much, as always, and I go down and attach some photos. Please let me know if you need more info, Denise

Yes. You should be able to use your audiol out jacks on your tv to hookup to the sound bar.

THANKS Laura! I will try one. I can return it if it doesn't work but that's such a hassle so was really hoping for some feedback, so appreciate it;) Denise

    You're welcome. :)

How old is your tv? I don't see an optical audio jack on there. Are there any that you don't have in the photo? That would be the ideal hook up since I don't see a coaxial digital jack on the soundbar.

Anyway, take a photo of the jacks in your tv to the store and show them. You should try to hook up to the best option you have. It looks like the straightforward way is going to be analog.

Assuming your photo represents everything you have.....If you want to keep it digital, you can buy a converter so you can hook up the coaxial digital audio to the optical audio on the soundbar. This is what a converter looks like: https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Optical-Toslink-Coaxial-Converter/dp/B002HWZN4W/ref=sr_1_3?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502799561&sr=1-3&keywords=Digital+Coaxial+to+Optical+Digital+Converter&refinements=p_6:ATVPDKIKX0DER

The converter looks easier, and not expensive Laura. Yes, that is all the hookup I have on my TV. I bought it in 2012 so a little older, in terms of the progress of technology;)

I'd rather skip trying to deal with salesman, and try the converter with the soundbar. If that fails, then I am able to return them. I won't be doing this until next month I don't think but I will let you know how it goes. Thank you again,

    Denise
PS I don't know what a jack is for optical, but pretty sure I don't have that. Also, the only coaxial (if I understand what that is) I have is being used for my Wifi through Charter. No cable, just Roku.

The Coaxial you have for your wifi or cable is different than the one for audio.

    This is for audio: https://smile.amazon.com/Mediabridge-ULTRA-Digital-Audio-Coaxial/dp/B00FMZX5RI/ref=sr_1_3?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1502819701&sr=8-3&keywords=digital+coaxial+audio+cable&refinements=p_85:2470955011

And this is Optical audio cable: https://smile.amazon.com/AmazonBasi...502819782&sr=1-3&keywords=optical+audio+cable

They are both a digital signal and better than analog. Your photo of your tv shows you have a coaxial audio out jack and the sound bar manual shows it has an Optical in jack. The converter will allow you to hook them up using those two jacks and get digital sound.

Btw, you can always just hook them up with the regular analog jacks which they both have and if you are fine with the sound, just leave it like that. :)

Ok, if I'm understanding you Laura, all I'll need besides the Soundbar package, is the converter? Just making sure what all to order. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your direction, and knowledge, Denise:)

All you need immediately is to buy the sound bar. I would imagine it has the analog cables included in the box (but you'd have to verify that). Honestly, I'd start there and see if you are fine with the sound.

If you want to go for the digital, you'll have to buy a converter and the two cables I linked you to (obviously you don't have to go with those exact ones...you can see if Walmart carries them). Typically, you can get much better prices ordering off of amazon for cables, but that's just my preference. If you do order from amazon, I did link you to two decent ones and I would only buy the ones sold by amazon since there's a ton of crap cables out there being sold by third parties that sell through amazon.

Just to verify...since I'm going by your photo...do you have the model of your tv? I just want to make sure that is actually a coax digital audio jack that I'm seeing.

Ok, yes, I have the model # and a Manual online so here is the link. I'll let you look at it since you know what you are looking for Laura. Again, thanks so much. I'm going to look through the manual now too because there is a "setting" in "audio" under my TV "menu" button. I saw something in there to do with (I think) going between digital and analogue but I have no idea what it is used for.

Oh, I see it now, it's about HDMI you can go from analogue to digital, which I have no clue what that is about:(

So tell me what you have connected to your tv right now. Do you have a cable box? If so, how do you have it connected?

Btw, digital is always a better way to go than analog. So if you are hooked up to a cable box, you should us an hdmi cable to hook the them up.

Also, if you have a cable set top box, you should see if that has an optical audio out port.

    Ok Laura;)

I don't have a cable box, just wifi from Charter. So I have a modem and a router (separate). The wifi's cable plugs into the Cisco, and an ethernet connects the Cisco to a Netgear box (not sure which of these is the router or modem).

I have the Roku, and it is hooked up through the HDMI, and I also have a DVD player I rarely use, plugged into the other remaining HDMI on TV.

okay. I just wanted to make sure since a cable box could change the hookup.

You can either do the regular analog or the digital setup I was talking about.

Will do Laura, I will let you know how it goes after I purchase the bar. I think I may go ahead and do it tomorrow as they have some in stock now. I check with the one, knowledgeable guy down there, as he did say there was all I needed included in the package. So, we'll see;) Thanks again for all your time helping me. Looking forward to trying it as I just miss so much on my TV, and can only "some of the time" keep up with subtitles;) Denise

Hi Denise - I got a soundbar recently as the sound on the new super slim TV was so poor. It has helped a lot with hearing dialogue but to my surprise the main benefit has been being able to play my music and get decent sound off my laptop or phone using Bluetooth. Enjoy.

Oh wow, that's fabulous info!! I do have music I love on my laptop, a lot of MP3 files in a Playlist on WMP.

    Thanks for the heads-up Earthling;)
