A friend of mine used to do that all the time...he'd let it dry for a day or so, and it'd be good as new.

Yeah I have one of those indestructable keyboards. They are nice for like short term things, but you'll get carpol tunnel syndrome in like two days if you use for more than two hours

Well it came out squeaky clean. I won't be trying it out 'til I set up Computer Station Three on my home LAN. Hopefully FedEx will deliver my new Samsung 173P LCD monitor today (ordered early Friday from NewEgg).
The keyboard pictured (and cleaned) is older, with the large diameter 5-pin connector. I wasn't too worried about ruining it in the dishwasher. And frankly I don't need much of an excuse to buy a newer and better keyboard (or other computer related goodies, obviously). :D

When I do that I take all of the keys off and put them in little laundry tablet bags (you know, the ones you put the washing tablets in so they can "fizz and clean the whole wash" or somthing). And I also take out the circuitry.

Never done it with a mouse, though... !

I know for a fact my dads cleaners do it to all the keyboards at his office once a week... figures considering most of the people in the office are riggers and have hands constantly covered in stuff from welding and grinding and in various ways shaping truss!

Now that is a good attitude! :D

I had no idea it was possible to do that! My method is to buy the cheapest keyboard on the market (I've found one for roughly 8 euro that is comfortable enough...) and I just replace it twice a year... I've tried taking it apart and clean it, but the keys get so much more stiff after I do that, I end up throwing it away anyway... I might have to try this instead!

I was at a computer fair a few months ago and I ended up drooling at some of the keyboards there... The keys weren't as elevated, it was almost as if the keys were sort of a touch pad, it was almost enough to breath on them and type... But still, the keys were clearly distanced from each other so there was no risk of misstyping (at least no more than it already is... :D ). I wanted one badly, I type a lot at work, and to have something that put so little strain on fingers would be marvelous. And the way the keys looked, I think it was less easy to get stuff into it... It was very expensive though...

Huh.. you can take the keys off these things?!

Oops? I spent 2 hours cleaning this damn thing a few months ago, got a little brush down between each and every key... then tried dusting etc

And what happens that evening.. my mother went and got cigarette ash all over the poor poor clean keyboard :(

Yes. Hours of fun can be had prizing the keys off and swapping the m and n keys at school. However, its no fun if the person touch types. But its good for teachers :D

ROFL! I was just thinking to myself...who cares what the keys say, as long as you don't go changing the "extra" keys that aren't letters or numbers...But then I touch-type 90wpm. :D
