Will Windows 7's "Windows XP Mode (XPM)" work for XP games?

Here is a blurb about it:

Windows 7's new XP Mode lets you seamlessly run virtualized applications alongside your regular Windows 7 applications—so your outdated software will continue to work. Before we begin, you'll want to make sure your system meets the requirements:

    * Processor: Processor capable of hardware virtualization, with AMD-V™ or Intel® VT turned on in the BIOS.
    * Memory: 2GB of memory recommended.
    * Hard disk requirement: 20MB hard disk space for installing Windows Virtual PC. Additional 15GB of hard disk space per virtual Windows environment recommended.

I am wondering if this will allow "Medal of Honor+" call "Call of Duty+" on a Windows 7 machine?

The games don't claim to be operable in Win 7, but now I'm not so sure.

Do the Processor Requirements have to be "High End" to be capable of "hardware virtualization"? Would this capability be found in the processors typically installed in low to mid priced notebook computers?

    Hi

Those games should work in Windows 7 already, may need any update patches that are available and could need to be run in Compatability mode for XP, but I have run Call of Duty in Win7 ok.

As for XP mode yes it should, but your hardware will need to be capable of Hardware Virtualization and you would need to tell us what make and model notebook you have as some CPUs found in notebooks will not have hardware virtualization built in, but alot do these days, just depends on the CPU.

    Thanks

I'm not familiar with Win7 at all, but when I saw the box for the Medal of Honor 10th anniv. pack which included all the games, it said nothing about Win7.

My copy of COD2 says nothing beyond XP, but I think its from 2005.

I'm just surprised I cant find out if these games play in W7 in my searches on line.

Are you saying W7 has a Compatability mode to resolve XP programs?

I noticed the XPM mode requires the upscale versions of 7 and not what's typically included in the off the shelf versions (in my price range).

    Hi

I've played old games on Win7 x64 with no issues an old one that works fine is Ghost Recon 2 which is from 2004, plays great but what you need to do with alot of games is to install Directx9c (sounds weird as Win7 has DirectX11 but its some legacy d3d.dll files Win7 needs).

What you can do is to use a site Microsoft have sepecially for this purpose and items that they or the makers assure work in various Windows versions (while I would add that in a perfect world this info is correct, I would stress that each PC setup is different so what may work for the masses may not work for you, or vice versa)

Windows 7 Compatability site (the search I did was for Call of Duty versions, so just add what you need to search for in the 2nd search box down (not the very top one).

Program Compatability Mode (its a right click on the apps setup file when installing or if installed right click the shortcut and choose Properties then Compatibility tab and choose your Windows version ) is known to work for many apps and games, again not all.

XPM is for Pro, Untimate or Enterprise versions of Windows 7 sadly and not for the most comon used one for end users of Home Premium, I think they marketed this as more for business than gamers.

    Dave,

Thanks for that link. I've been looking for something like that for days now.

Funny though. The 10th anniversary all inclusive MoH pack isn't compatible with Win7 but all the games are individually.

I had just ordered an xp machine with pretty good stuff over my old one:

    Dell Latitude D620 Notebook Computer - Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83GHz, 2GB DDR2, 60GB HDD, Combo, 14.1" WXGA, Windows XP Pro 32-bit, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. $269

Now I have to again decide if I want to keep that or move up to Win7 on a brand new machine !!!

I hate deciding which computer to buy.

    Thanks
