Win 10 - clean install or upgrade?

Previously I've always gone for a clean install of a new OS but this time, starting with my wife's laptop I have opted to upgrade, the big benefit of upgrading being that you don't have to reinstall any of your software or reconfigure Windows - everything just carries over. This may be important if you use expensive software such as Office, as we do, but any problems in your current OS will also carry over of course.

After a few days of largely trouble free use of the the wife's laptop I was sufficiently confident in Win 10 TP to upgrade my own laptop. Apart from the time the upgrade takes - several hours in our case - everything has gone well with only a couple of minor errors, both fairly easily corrected.

While there are still a few gremlins in Win 10 which hopefully will be mostly rectified by July 29, it is already a stable and usable OS which will upgrade automatically as new builds are released, including RTM. If your current system is running well, and if you want to move on then I believe, and providing you image your current setup first, that you are quite safe upgrading now, even though 10 is still not final.

 

I plan on upgrading, to see what happens. I did the same to vista and 7 and 8 and 8.1. Upgrading to vista was a mistake, format re-install everything was a-okay. Didn't run into any issues with Vista like the media stated. Though at the time I was running 24 GB ram so there is that.

 

Ive seen a lot of issues between TP versions, so we shall see.
