Win 10 Endless Loop On Start Up.

hi folks, HP I5 17" notebook, with Win 10, about 5 or 6 years old. on restart, it has gone into a loop, says, windows is preparing to start, don't turn off computer. It has been about 30 minutes so far. The comp has been very slow and has had some issues such as it won't shutdown completely, except after an update. So, not sure if this is a software issue or a hardware problem. I was going to go through all the speed up steps recommended by MS, as I am sure there are all sorts of unneeded apps running. It is my wife's computer, and it is probably time for an upgrade, but I would like to opptomize it for now. So, question is, " can I shut it down?"Thanks.

 

Finally, started up, but is ridiculously slow, somewhere along the lines of a 486 or early Pentium.

 

I would go through command prompt admin and run a chkdsk /f...you could have lots of errors on drive.Which can slow down the hard drive.

You could probably all so just upgrade the hard drive to a SSD.Would be a little bit faster.

Edit: They now are selling ryzen laptops that are pretty fast.

 

Thanks for your reply. Actually have started looking at the Ryzens as well as another I-5, which would obviously be much quicker, as well as having an SSD, more memory, and better and faster graphics, especially if we were to get a gaming rig.
