Win 11 Sporadically Stops Logging Typing Keystrokes From All Sources - Including Onscreen Keyboard

For the last week I have been experiencing something new - my computer stops accepting any typing. I can use the Windows key and non-typing keys but I cannot type on any software, browser, or enter my login PIN. This persist with my wired keyboard, wireless keyboard, Bluetooth keyboard, or even the on-screen keyboard. Rebooting doesn't fix it, only shutting down and waiting 10 minutes does and then it may happen again later that day or a couple of days.

I have ensured all keyboard drivers are up to date, made sure filters keys are off, I have ran standard cleaning and diagnostics and I cannot figure out why the is occurs.

    Any ideas?

    That is definitely odd.

First, waiting 10 minutes does nothing UNLESS you have a faulty power supply and that is unlikely if it works fine for several days between these events.

To make sure all possible settings are reset, instead of simply shutting down and booting the computer, shutdown then unplug the power supply from the wall OR flip the PSU's master power switch to "Off" (or "0" for 3 - 4 seconds). Then plug it back in (or flip switch to "On" or "|").

The ATX Form Factor standard requires all ATX power supplies to maintain +5Vsb standby voltage to multiple points on the motherboard when simply shutdown. That +5Vsb is what allows us to start the computer again with the front panel power button, or to wake the computer with the mouse or keyboard, among other things. Unless you unplug from the wall (or flip the master power switch) the computer is in a standby mode and not totally "off". Only by unplugging (or flipping the switch) will you totally remove all voltages, including the ATX required +5Vsb that "may" be holding some corrupt setting.

Since you have tried multiple keyboards, including the on-screen keyboard (OSK), then obviously, a faulty keyboard is not it. It is the OSK that bothers me. I was going to suggest making sure you tried a different USB port but the OSK does not depend on that. o_O ???

Is Windows otherwise fully updated? Have you scanned for malware with a current security solution? FTR, if using Windows own "Defender" for your security, that is perfectly capable and just fine. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

If all that resolves nothing, then you might try System File Checker. From an elevated (as administrator) command prompt, enter sfc /scannow (note the space before the "/") and press Enter.

    This escalated late last night

Starting last night, when I hit keystrokes, it flips through programs even opening up ones I didn't have open. The Start Menu opens and will not close, My restore points are gone. Other than that, it works fine as long as you don't type. You can use the mouse and use programs normally

Here are actions taken without resolution:

    Malware Malbytes Scan
    Glary Registry Cleaner
    Check Disk
Shutting Down and Removing CMOS battery, waiting 30 minutes and rebooting
Re-installing Last Windows Update Through Windows Settings
    Safe Mode
Going through Process Lasso line by line and ensuring nothing suspicious is running
    Troubleshooters
Then, I ran the full Tweaking.com Windows Repair utility

Then, when I reboot, it gave an error about using my pin and had to login with phone notification. Then, the screen was black. No cursor, no CTRL, Alt, Delete. I again removed CMOS battery and went to run some errands. It gave an error with my PIN and forced me to create another. I log back in and now I get a black screen with a cursor. Ctrl Alt Delete got me to Task Manager. I found that windows explorer wwasn't running. I try to start it with admin privelidges but it doesn't start and black screen persist. Win+R is not working.

In regards to shutting down and waiting 10 minutes, I find that if I restart or shutdown and then reboot immediately, Windows will often reopen with everything as it was with programs open I was using, etc. If I wait 10 minutes, it reboots cleanly. Also, I tried restarting immediately and the problem resumed. It was only after waiting 10 minutes or so it resolved. I always thought this was because of RAM. In situations like these, I go further than unplugging, I remove the CMOS battery.

I am at a complete loss.
    Now,

When testing from other keyboard, wireless, Bluetooth, or on screen, do you unplug the wired keyboard from PC? If not give that a try. Also I had a keyboard that did strange things when I had it plugged into a usb hub, and not directly into PC. Just things to try, I actually have no idea what is going on. It appears you just recently installed windows? How old is the equipment? especially the hard drive. Look at the smart data on it, and confirm its condition. And just for kicks, try a different mouse, it may be possible if it is having an unnoticeable issue it could cause strange things? Good luck.
