AVG Free edition works fine with Win2000 SP4.

Don't know about SP3 but would seriously suggest you upgrade to SP4 anyway.

I used avg, bullguard, alviria, and avast did work on it if you got an older version.

If you can get your hands on the developers hardening pack, that is actually better. Win2k Pro is the only OS that I never had problems with being hacked. The anti virus is your main concern. Win2k was more of an early server OS than an average home user OS. Because of this, it has a lot more options to use to harden it. Do this and you will be a lot safer with it. I will dig around and see if I can locate my old disk with the security hardening pack / dev tools for you. No guarantees, but I will get it posted if I can find it.

Win2k was definitely one of my favorites and I really didn't move away to XP until after they killed Win2k support and I couldn't get updates any more. It didn't look like much, but it was fast. If you are interested, I may even have some mods around to improve the appearance of the OS a little.

    You want a firewall. I'll assume stand-alone.
I run Zone Alarm v 4.5.594 on my windows 2000 computers. This version is pre-bloat and before the company was sold.
You can find all the versions here: http://www.oldversion.com/ZoneAlarm.html
