I found this on one of our finance computers at my church. I set up an icon so the user could click on the screensaver to leave her computer secure while she was away from her desk, or over-night so a nightly job could run. I check the box on the screensaver setup that says require password (yes, she has one) on resume, then apply, but it doesn't require the password. I tried it on my machine at home with the same results. We really don't want to make her log off, but we don't want it accessable to just anyone when she is gone, and unfortunately her account has to be up to run the backup job at night.

Has anyone else seen this, and do you have a fix or a work-around?

    Thank you!

    Does this work?
To establish Windows 7 screensaver password protection:
    1. Right click an empty space on your desktop.
    2. Click Personalize, and then click the Screen Saver section.
    3. Change Wait time to 10 minutes or less.
    4. Select On resume, display logon screen.
    5. Click Apply.

I don't have a password on my Win 7 computer so I can't test it. (My husband and I are both senior citizens with no children so we have no need to protect the computers from grandkids. :-D ) I want him to be able to borrow my netbook, turn it on and use it.

Thanks to all for the ideas. AtlBo - Your link had something about the power settings which I checked, re-set, and then shut down. When I "came back" it worked, and has ever since. I don't think I would have EVER thought to change power settings (it was already on do not sleep or hibernate or turn off).

    Thank you!

One more (related) question on this. The screen saver is working, but for some time > 3 min and < 23 min it doesn't lock. I can move the mouse and it opens up with no password required. Doesn't matter how long the delay in starting (apparently), I have set that at 2 min and 30 min and the delay in actually locking the screen is still there. As a work-around I have told the user to set the screensaver at least 23 minutes before they leave work, and to test it before actually leaving. That is working, but is a pain. I have tried help and all of the documentation indicates that it should start immediately. It does not, either on my pc or the one at church. Again this is Win7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 applied and updates installed to date. Thanks.

SeaDragon...I expect you aren't near the machine now, but if/when you are and get a chance, it might help to see a screenshot of the power settings.

Looks like you have the screensaver set for 3 minutes and sleep mode or hybernation for 20 minutes after that...
