I had set aside ALL DAY Sunday to accomplish the dreaded, but necessary task of Windows 7 HP x64 Repair Install. I have the necessary ISO (w/o SP1!!!!). My computer has had SP 1 installed, by me. Windows System Restore is not operating properly and I must do a Repair Install. All other options have been eliminated.

Now, the problem is thus: "Compatibility" tells me that I need to uninstall SP1. I've checked everywhere!!!!!~!!

How is this accomplished? I am wasting daylight!

    Thanks.:confused

It may be easier to just get the ISO with SP1. They are available just for this purpose.

Otherwise Go to Programs in Control Panel and click the link for Show Updates. Look for "Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB 976932)".

What? I do not have the License Key for THAT version!!! I must uninstall SP1 to do a Repair Install!!!!!

Now, I did find the KB 976932 in Updates.

For over 3 hours I waited for, first, Trusted Installer, then dll host (COM substitute) to accomplish its mission.

It never stops, it never stops and it never stops. Sheeesh.

I am livid, and righteously so!

Yes, I already have the Version I need. And, Yes, you need the License Key for Repair Install. And, I can not get SP1 to UNINSTALL! What the heck is going on?

So far, you're batting the same as me..............

OK! Here's the real deal, which I have found by days (It's now 1.8.13) of work and installs and re-installs:

To uninstall SP1 when the normal process, even under the SAFE MODE won't work, use the Admin elevated CMD Prompt WUSA (Windows Uninstall Stand Alone)! It's slow but effective. WUSA/ Uninstall /KB976932

If your License KEY for Windows is for an non-Upgraded version, you must un-install the "upgrade". i.e., SP1, prior to using the Repair Install technique of Windows File System Repair. Otherwise, the Repair Install will fail or not run.

I hope that this will help others as it has helped me! I'm finally back to normal status, fully updated and on-line, again!
