I'm used to XP. My 1st Win 7 computer. Hour trying to figure this out, umm. A few beers. Trying what I know. Hidden files. Need help.

I downloaded a file to up-date a automotive scan tool I just bought from harbor freight with ABS. $99 bucks. That file is in my temp files. When I use the scan tool program to chose the right bin and aut file. 2 diffrrent files I have to get. It dosen't find it. Hunting for the temp file thru the scan tool program dosen't work. To chose.

Tryed to copy paste and that didn't work. Think it has to do with the protections on explorer 11 I have or the Win 7

    Here's the address.
    C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5

FYI Low doesn't show. You'll have to type it. I keep a shortcut on the Desktop to this location.

Thank you for the info. Must be me on doing something wrong.

Tryed your addy. ( Using my user name. ) It didn't like it. Went to show hidden files to allow. Changed things back to original.

Use my XP computer to download the files. Worked fine and up-dated the scan tool. On XP I downloaded the files and moved them to the desk-top so I could find them easyer. Should of tryed that on Win 7, but didn't.

You downloaded something. In that case, it might be located in C:\Users\your username\Downloads

When you unhide files, you should also uncheck the box next to 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'. Just don't leave it that way unless you are the only user.

Also, after downloading using Internet Explorer in Windows 7, you have the option to 'Open Folder' where the downloaded file is located.

Lastly, by default, everything you download should be in 'Downloads' folder - plodr gave you the address.

Forgot to mention, I did uncheck the box hide protected operating files, along with the show hidden files. ( Everything is returned back to normal now. ) Plodr, I did find the downloaded files in my windows downloaded temp files under my user name. Kept it minimized so I could copy paste the file name-click on the file name addy itself to try to copy-paste it. Got the wrong file error all the time.

Tryed it many ways. Thru the program. All the time when I went to find files. It would default to C:Users\myname\AppData\forget the rest but ended in 32. ( I didn't write it down. ) And the files were not there to chose.

What was throwing me off. I tryed to copy-past where the files were. To the update scan tools program line that asked, where they were at. When I clicked on ok. A box popped up and said wrong file. And I know it was the correct location.

All I can think of is the scan tool up-dater was not compatable with win7. As it worked fine with XP.

More corrected info later as I'm using my XP computer now. To give specifics. Running both on one monitor. Turn one off and other one on to do things. Till I get info from my old computer to the new one. Need to do this till I get it done.

Eldon, on your addy. I tryed on the end Content IE5, I have Internet Explorer 11. Tryed IE11 when IE5 didn't work. IE11 didn't work also.

Tryed adding the low, didn't work. Tryed with-out the low, didn't work. Must be something I'm doing wrong. Did add my user name in that addy.

Boy! I can hardly wait till I get the free up-date to the new version of windows when it's released!!! Think I'm having fun now? Just wait, more to come!! ;) I took too long to update a computer from my old XP to Win7 on the learning curve. Lotta catching up to do.

By the by, used the scan tool today to get an ABS ussue fixed. Worked wonderfull. Pointed out a right front wheel sensor is bad. Now I know what part to buy.

I thank you all for trying to help me.

IE11 wont work. For some reason Microsoft uses IE5 for the temp internet files in Windows XP, Vista & 7.

Try the following after unhiding all files.
Double-click on each of the following:
    C:
    Users
    UserName
    AppData
    Local
    Microsoft
    Windows
    Temporary Internet Files

Then click twice on an empty area in the address bar.
Press the backslash key, type Low and press enter.
    Double-click Content.IE5. You'll see a dialogue box - see screenshot.
    Click OK.
You'll see 2 files and 4 folders. The latter contain all the temporary internet files.
In the Search Bar (top right), type *.* and press enter. You'll see all the temporary internet files.

If you might have to keep both computers available for some time it might be worth investing in a KVM switch. A KVM switch (KVM is an abbreviation for "keyboard, video and mouse") is a hardware switch that allows a user to control two computers from one keyboard, monitor and mouse. We've been using one here for years as both computers can be left running and you just switch control from one to the other with a keyboard hotkey.
