    Hey, not experiencing any huge problems yet but Avast keeps reporting these two infections, running malware and Avast scan/cleanups has been ineffective... Hopefully all the logs I need are attached. Thanks in advance!

    Rescan with HitmanPro, when it finds services.exe - Virus, allow it to Replace by clicking the down arrow next to the detection and choosing Replace.
    Choose to Delete these files if they are detected:

    • C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
      C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
    Ignore all other detections.
    Afterwards, click the Next button.
    HitmanPro may want to reboot the PC in order for the changes to take affect, please do so.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Files/folders tab and locate these detections:

    • [ZeroAccess][FILE] @ : C:\Windows\Installer\{d58b198b-83e6-4ee0-23e3-894756952aad}\@ --> FOUND
      [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] U : C:\Windows\Installer\{d58b198b-83e6-4ee0-23e3-894756952aad}\U --> FOUND
      [ZeroAccess][FOLDER] L : C:\Windows\Installer\{d58b198b-83e6-4ee0-23e3-894756952aad}\L --> FOUND
      [ZeroAccess][FILE] Desktop.ini : C:\Windows\Assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini --> FOUND
      [ZeroAccess][FILE] Desktop.ini : C:\Windows\Assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini --> FOUND
    Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Do not reboot your computer yet.

    Now rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach both of those new logs also.

    HitmanPro said it failed to remove the services.exe it found, although I told it to replace. On reboot it only listed the desktop.ini files as having been deleted. Ran Rougekiller and selected the files indicated, it also tried to remove the services.exe file that was still present. It produced a pre and post-removal log as well as one from the scan so I've attached them all. Thanks again

    Rescan with Hitman and remove these items:
    C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
    C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
    Let it reboot after running it.

    Then again, rescan with both RogueKiller and Hitman and attach the new logs.

    Done and done, logs attached. UAC turned itself on after this most recent reboot, I've had it turned off since my fresh OS install more than a month ago. Also some folders in my user folder aren't accessible; local settings, start menu, etc, nor is the Default User folder. There's only one user account on my pc, not sure if it's pertinent but thought it bore mentioning.

    Done, and Avast! seems to have stopped going off as well.

    Good deal. What other issues are you still having, if any?

    There's two desktop.ini files sitting on my desktop that I'd like to delete if I can? Or do I need to just hide them? There are also a bunch of shortcuts that appear as hidden in my user folder. Start Menu, Local Settings, etc. and they all return an "Access is denied" error when I try to open them. Could that be a UAC thing? For that matter can I turn UAC back off now? Finally, that user folder appears to have been dropped on my desktop. Thanks again

    The desktop.ini files will go away when we do our final clean up. Your other issues should be addressed in the software forum.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
    Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
    Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

    I think that's everything cleaned up. Thanks for your help!
