I have just completed your guys' RUN FIRST for the malware issue I was having. Increased the virtual memory settings, since they were somehow set below the system recommendations, but the laptop is still freezing.

It for sure freezes when playing "Magic", but at random amounts of time, and then also sporadically. I'm at a miss. Please help!

Have you been declared clean by the malware guys. if so then you need to open your task manager and see what is hogging the cpu and memory resources when it freezes.

Yes i was given a clean bill of health from you guys. The attached pic is of the task manager there was only two things with CPU usage the one shown in photo and, DWM.eXe (second "cpU" column) " 02 ".
sorry had to crop pic to make it small enough to upload.

DWM is part of the default graphics/AERO in W7, I always disable it and AERO to free up the graphics resources. On older machines, especially those with built in graphics or older designs of graphics cards, it can make a big difference to the responsiveness of Windows and help take some lag out of gaming.

Another good point is come off aero theme and use a basic theme. as aero theme slows down computer

I changed display settings to classic view. And it worked like a charm. Been playing Magic without any signs of freezing. Thanks so much.

Pass it on to everybody you know with this problem, slowdowns, hangups. I just found the answer last night. Go into your browser(s) and DISABLE JAVA. That will change everything and Windows 7 speedup will amaze you. There will be no more hang-ups or slowdowns when your computer is idle and you start up again. It is amazing! I couldn't believe the difference.

NOTE: JAVA is different than Javascript. The average person, does not need JAVA on his/her hard drives at all. Try it, then thank me.

Stop telling everyone to disable Java. While it has its benefits, you're one experience does not apply to EITHER thread you posted in.

Regularly you will hear this over the internet.

But what most don't understand is that JAVA is required for a lot of state and federal sites to function. We have a few critical apps that require java to function.

No Java on any computers (four Windows 7) so apparently the state sites and federal sites I go to do not require it.

Unless you are visiting sites with java applets, you never will. These have been largely phased out but government sites are slow to change. Note: they were phased out due to client-side execution is always unpredictable and server-side allows for a more uniform experience for everyone.

Java is not this obscure language that nobody uses. Use it on-demand, and keep it updated. You will not have any issues.

If keeping java installed gets you infected with malware, I might propose that the problem isn't exactly java. Removing the framework it runs on doesn't fix the problem that allowed it to happen.

I've never once left java or .NET off any of my machines and I have never been infected with malware, or hacked because of it. I almost got hit with a driveby once but that was because it was a root kit that preyed on unpatched IE and it was a trusted site (jquery.com). Of course I was patched....
