Hi! For a long time, I've been wondering out why the Windows versions of my compression techniques were doing far worse than the Commodore 64 versions. This morning I found out why: I forgot to do something to update the Adaptive Huffman Codes tree. But, right now, I'm getting totally unrealistic results, especially on uncompressible files. I was able to trace the issue: it was due to a method I'm using to compress Huffman values that are uncompressible: first, I was compressing them naively using 8 bits. Then, I implemented a method to skip values that are compressible and not NYT. The last time I tried it, reverting back to 8 bits did what it was supposed to do: cost me the gains on uncompressible files. Just saying....
