Okay here is the thing when I've opened my computer (I'm using a different one right now...) there is a message saying this....

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Okay... So, what I did I get a Startup Disk and CD-ROM... I've explored a little bit and here is what I found...

Setup cannot install Windows ME on your computer.

Your computer does not have a hard disk, your hard disk is not functioning correctly, or you hard disk requires a special device driver. Contact your computer vendor for assistance.

Another would be found in the HELP portion of the Startup disk...

... that drive C does not contain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition. There are several possible causes.

    1. The drive may need to be partitioned. To create a partition on the drive, run FDISK from the MS-DOS command prompt.

    2. You may be using third-party disk-partitioning software.... Blah.. Blah.. Blah...

    3. Some viruses also cause your drive C to not register. You can use a virus scanning program to check your computer for viruses.

Wahhh! So far... This are all the things I've "discovered" around the place... What should I do? I need to fix this computer ASAP!

Also... Before that whole boot thing, there is a message before that I always see in start up...

    CMOS checksum error -Defaults loaded
    CMOS battery failed

    Please help me!

    Thanks!

Does the bios detect your harddrive?

Yes, check to see if the hard drive is detected in the BIOS. If not, check the IDE cable and the power cable. Try it in another computer. Run the Drive Fitness Test utility on it to see if it is still viable.

If it is, then run FDISK and partition the drive, then format it. You should then be able to install Me.

If no ones advice has helped, you could remove the hard drive, install it in another computer as a slave drive, and copy your files to CD or DVD, provided the hard drive is ok!:)

Mmmm.... It wasn't able to find any hard drive... I'll try checking the computer in our tusted computer vendor. They could change the battery and slave all my files in my computer... I've somehow manage though to fix the comouter. The next day, when I used it... It's back to its old self again! :(

Try to open the computer case, put one hand on the metal chasis. And make sure that the cables are properly connected to the hard drive. You can also try to go onto the motherboard and find the battery and replace it but first try to take it out for about 30 seconds and put it back in. Be sure to hold onto the chasis or you will fry your computer. It usually says Boot Failure if the computer can not find the OS on the hard drive, usually meaning that your hard drive is either bad or that it can't read from it, or your OS is corrupt. One thing you could do is have your friend plug in your hard drive into his computer(make sure he is good with computers) into the secondary hard drive. And then copy the files onto his computer, then just reformat and move it back onto the hard drive. You could try to repair Windows if you have the disc.

On a cautionary note, I would back up all the important info on your HD.

One distinct possiblility is that your HD is displaying symptoms that it is failing.

    Good Luck
