I am working on a Windows ME machine. I can get a valid IP, DNS & DHCP server, but no sites in IE or Firefox. I can ping valid ip's, but not a web address (like www.google.com).

I've tried a second adapter with same result. I've also tried re-installing TCP/IP.

Is this a Winsock problem (I've seen many in XP)? Or something else?

I am running out of ideas, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

re: Gateway P3, 512 Mb RAM, ME 4.90.3000; adapters are 2Wire USB b/g & Linksys WUSB54Gv2; I'd try a ethertnet cable, but I don't think it will help (plus I don't have one in stock at this hour).

It turned out to be a newdotnet infetion.

I ran LSPFix (CEXX.ORG), saw the offending layer. removed it & rebooted.

Now it appears to be good to go.

PS I thought system was clean since it was cleaned recently and had firewall & anti-spyware.
