    Hello
if you create 2 images with a Win 7 or 8 imaging program will you have two backups or does the second remove the first?
    Thank you

That article contains this - read it vary carefully before deciding you will never use Windows Backup again ;)

"If you renamed a WindowsImageBackup folder that you want to restore, then you must rename the current WindowsImageBackup folder, then rename the image you want back to WindowsImageBackup in order to be able to restore it."

Not too convenient if Windows won't boot

Thank you for pointing that out. I guess if you only created one image and never touched it, theoretically it would recover. I did this when I created Win 8 as a last resort backup.
    I agree not too cool.

Although I use Acronis as my primary backup tool I do have Windows Backup set to create a system image weekly. The latest image always overwrites the previous one but it's another safety net if you have the disk capacity.

It's good practice to move all your data files, the 'My' folders, to their own partition. This keeps your system image small; it avoids overwriting your files if you need to do a restore; and simplifies creating a data backup regime.

    >>I removed the Win 8 backup and ran an EaseUs one.
There is something wrong because my existing Macrium shows 13 GB and the EaseUs shows 25.

Would be better peterr just to pick one backup tool and stick with it. You are talking about Windows Backup, Macrium, Easeus, and I know you previously had Acronis. Confusion will reign!

I was asking which sounded right the 25 or 13 GB.
I do not have Acronis since Win 8.
I therefore am trying to settle with one of 2 others.
I am keeping the Windows one but the difference between the other two causes me to wonder which is the correct one.
I too want a primary and a backup.

They are probably both right, but the backup content and/or compression may differ. Check what exclusions apply in each, as files such as hyberfil.sys and pagefile.sys, neither of which is visible by default can make gigabytes of difference. Also check you have only included the required partition in each.

I certainly appreciate your information, B.

I now have Macrium as my primary and Windows 8 as my secondary program. I could find the images with the rescue discs or each.

When I create a new image as I used to do in Acronis, I usually insert the date so no images are deleted unless I want to do so.
