:confused My os is windows xp and I'm using a logitech cordless trackball. device manager shows two entries for logitech HID compliant mouse and ps/2 mouse. the mouse is plugged into the ps/2 port of my motherboard. so I delete the HID compliant mouse and it appears again after reboot. Also tried to delete it from safe mode but it shows up again after reboot. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the duplicate entry? Thanks

You don't need to remove the "duplicate" entry because it isn't a duplicate. Your Logitech trackball qualifies as two separate devices: one is a standard PS2 mouse, and the other is a Human Interface Device (which is a PC standard) or HID compliant mouse. It's normal and OK for both entries to be there and the trackball may not function normally if both entries are not listed.

Thanks for the reply. the strange thing is that the device manager always used to show just one entry the ps/2 mouse until I recently changed cases. I had 1 gig ram but when I changed cases something happened and I only had 512 ram but everything was working ok and the device manager showed just one entry the ps2 mouse. all my trouble seemed to start when I replaced the bad 512 ram stick. Now I am experiencing program hangs, cursor freezing and some other weird problems. Do you think this could be a motherboard related issue as something may have happened when I handled it moving it to the new case?
