I am setting up a new computer with Win XP for my girlfriend. I ordered an OEM version of the CD from newegg, but I want to start setting up the system now.

My question is whether I can use a WIn XP Home Upgrade CD that I already have, and then change the product key to the new one when the CD arrives in the mail. Will WIndows accept a Full version, OEM key after being installed from a retail, upgrade disk?

No. I don't believe it will accept it.

Thanks for the reply. For the second question, would there be a problem using an old pre sp1 version then adding the product key from the post sp2 version of xp home oem?

I'd forget about swapping keys. Just set up the system with either version and don't register it. That will give you 14 days to use it, when the newone comes in you can just do a clean install on a working system. Install any programs to a seperate partition.
