Win XP load screen - strange!!!!

Whenever I first boot up my PC it gets stuck on the windows load screen. The bar will continue move but it never gets into windows. The strange thing is that when I hard shut down the pc (4 secs on power button) and restart, the computer will boot up as normal. This happens every time.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening???? Is it temperature related perhaps?

You could try going into the event viewer under administrator tools and checking the System option. If its a system error stoping the computer loading then it will list it there.

 

Couldn't see anything too obvious. Can't help thinking its temperature related as I can reset/shut down restart as many times as I want after the first initial boot. Could it be the processor? Or is it a silly theory?

 

Does it happen in Safe Mode?

 

I actually had a problem like this a while ago where the computer wouldn't restart. If I tried to restart it would just crash after the bios load and then it would always do this until I unpluged the computer from the power and left it for a few minutes before turning it back on again. Changing the motherboard fixed that problem.

You can check the temperature of your cpu using motherboard monitor if you know your motherboard brand and version.

However, overheating the cpu usually shuts off a computer after getting too hot, which takes heavy use normally, rather then stopping on the inital boot when the computer is probably still cool. If you know the insides of your computer pretty well you could try removing the main componants from the motherboard and psu one by one and then putting them back, which would rule out a loose connection.
