I have a former company laptop and have forgotten my XP logon so cant get in. I have used Winternals ERD Commander and then accessed the locksmith function but it only shows some of the user accounts and mine is not listed so I cant reset my password. I tried changing the administrator password and then logging on but it wont let me do that either - it just says i could not be logged on as the domain was not available.

Any ideas how I can get round this or do I have to completely re-install XP.

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    thanks.

Windows XP uses different password authentications services depending upon whether the machine is stand alone or connected to a domain.

In the case of a domain, part of the authentication is not located on the laptop but on the system (server Kerbos) You cannot gain full access while disconnected.

If you or a mate can reconnect once, ERD Commander will do the business.

(Halo if anyone has ERD C. I think the request is kosher as this very good program costs 4 time a new Windows.)

    Hope this helps.
