Win XP login window: Cant' Enter Password

The system is Win XP pro, patched. Two users: Admin and Ltd. When I log off one user, and get back login window, the passwords fields do not have prompt, so one cannot enter password. Then I must restart to be able to login. The problem has been persistent since last clean install of windows.

 

Radiot, did you get anywhere with this? And if not, anyone have any ideas? We are possibly dealing with a similar problem with someone else's computer so I would be interested in hearing what people have to say.

 

You should not (be able to) choose the username admin or administrator or derivatives as this is reserved by windows.

The windows administrator account is a special account hidden in normal mode login but shown in safemode. You can't change its privileges.

There is no password for this account unless you have chosen one.
Just hit enter.

Create a new adminisrator account with administrator privileges and use that in future.

 

What do you mean patched? Do you mean it has Service Pack 2 on it now?
If so, did the problem started afterwards or you already had it before?

Are you doing a User Switch or an actual Log Off? Also what does "password fields do not have prompt" mean exactly? Is it 'grayed-out'?

Are you using any tweaking type programs?
Also, open the Services control panel (Start > Run > services.msc > OK) and write down which ones are 'disabled', ok?
