Win XP Pro...Where is Java?

Hi all,

I've been having some major difficulties of late with my PC, e.g. unable to play internet games such as on Pogo, without downloading Java, whereas before I didn't have to. I can't detect Java in my internet security settings - it just seems to have vanished from my computer.

I've tried reinstalling the OS, then I completely reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of the OS....all to no avail.

Any suggestions on what's happening and what to do about it?

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp
download the java kit from sun and install it.
MS no longer provides the JVM per court ruling against MS.

Hi - interesting - I didn't realize that. I did a search this morning and from what I read it sounds like MS is still allowed to distribute a version of the product though.

Regardless, that still doesn't explain why the JVM was there and then all of a sudden wasn't. My partner has it on her brand new Dell 8300 with Win XP Home and has never had a problem with it.

Any ideas on this?

As kodo stated MS are not allowed to bundle it or actively promote its Java... BUT it can still be found updated from time to time under the guise of a security update at WU... plus its still lurking in their cab pool.

off hand the MS version is at version 3810 at present, I still use the MS one over the SUN one.
