Im running win xp pro and I get this problem when using zmud 7.04. It says fatal error: unable to open databases in directory. I don't think this is a mdac/jet problem as i am able to run it on another computer with the same version of mdac/jet files (checked using microsoft's component checker program).

Could this be that im missing a critical system file related to databases? This problem only happened when i was forced to do a windows repair installation was working fine a few days ago.

    Pls help thanks.

Do you have Administrative Privileges on both computers ?

yes. i even installed the same win xp hotfixes the other computer has listed in the add/remove programs folder and nothing works. do win xp hotfixes which "cannot be uninstalled" show up in add/remove?

I have already downloaded all the win xp hotfixes listed in the add/remove section that I can find in the working computer to the one which I get the fatal error.

The question is there an update that does not show in add/remove program folder that im missing? This will help me narrow down what is wrong. Thanks.

I don't know then Kristy, wait for some other ideas.

I would make sure that the system is completely updated.

Sorry, I missed your last post about the updates. If you think you might be missing something on the other system or yours, check Windows Update itself for both computers. Select Start, Windows Update or Start, All Programs, Windows Update. Click View installation history in the left panel to see a list of the updates you've downloaded and installed.

Just a thought, does Zmud require Microsoft .NET Framework ?

I tried installing .net framework - didn't solve the problem either.

Your earlier advice on checking the update history on both computers is helpful. My brother's computer has only 2 updates according to the update history. One for samsung monitor, and the other is KB842773. He's running win xp pro version 2002. So the lack of updates on my computer doesn't seem to be the problem.

Add: Just found out that if the update says "cannot be removed once installed" it doesn't show up in the add/remove programs list

So...should I just reformate the harddisk and reinstall?

I would wait for some other suggestions (if possible), might be something simple.
