Ok, I was having a problem with random restarts and getting this error with the same 2 files... So I reformatted, installed xp again and now I am getting the same error. I don't know what to do! If anyone can help me PLEASE do so, I am very upset I can't use my pc here. Also if there is any other info I need to supply, I can do asap.

Posting the errors and files would be a good start, maybe addinng in your computer specifications would be nice too.

Sorry it has taken so long to respond here. The error is always "the system has recovered from a serious error" so I click the info and its the same 2 files, one of which I can't remember at the moment and the other is sysdata.xml. It's always in documents and settings under my name and local settings in the temp folder. I go to that folder usually and they are not there. But this time (after the reformat) the whole local settings folder is missing. I did a scan with avast antiviris and the only thing it found was problems with yahoo messenger so I uninstalled that. But now every time I download something it tells me the files are corrupted, its a hard disk problem or the files were not complete.

Ok, system specs. It's kind of an older pc. AMD Athlon 2800+ with 1.5 gig of ram. 120GB HD, 350W PSU. I installed XP pro on it and also service pack 3. That's one thing I never did before but still the same errors. I am kinda upset and hoping my HD isn't taking a dump on me as I have a new video card and PSU on the way lol.

I don't recall where I read it, but there was an article about SP3 having some issues with AMD machines. Needing a patch or something. Maybe someone else knows where that is.

What we need are some specs for you system make/model/OS and if possible the exact error messages you are getting.
The disk you are re-formatting from is it original or a copy or (i have to ask) a P2P copy?

Please give as much information as possible.

Seems like everything is ok now, I did a scandisk and no errors for now. Has anyone here had any problems with yahoo messenger? I have a couple friends that had to stop using it cause of errors...

Yes the XP disk I am using is a copy, but of an original, not pirated. I used my original key to register it. Not sure that would matter when the original XP that was put on this machine was from a microsoft disc, and the same errors were there before format. You guys know more than I do, so I won't question it. But like I said everything seems fine at the moment. I got the game I wanted installed, and installing a second I used before. Both are free games, one is shot-online, the other combat arms. I guess it could be possible the hard drive is a bit old and going out on me? I never replaced and I have had this pc for 4+ years...
