I have an RCA Windows 10 2. in one Tablet.
    Model W1166.

When I have my KeyBoard connected to the screen it is like a LapTop.

If I click on the Start Botton then go to Apps and then say I Drag the NetFlix App to my DeskTop.

It will creat a Shortcut on my DeskTop and it only works for a Fue Days.

Then the NetFlix ShortCut Turns into an All Blank White Page.
And if I click on it it says Locating The App.

And it does not work and this happens over and over.

I did call the Microsoft Support Line and they told me Win10 can not creat Shortcuts to Apps on the DeskTop.

They told me You Can Only Pin Them To The Start Menu Or The TaskBar.

And yes when I do this it all works good.

But then I called the Microsoft Line for another things I thought I would ask about this again.

And somebody told me Yes You Can Creat ShortCuts To Apps On The DeskTop.
This Person told me they do it all the time.

So can anybody help can you Creat ShortCuts to Apps. on the DeskTop and if so how?

I'm about 99.99% sure this is a bunch of BS. I am not totally 100% sure only because this is a tablet and not a regular notebook or PC.

Frankly, I didn't even know RCA was still around but I see it is, at least the brand name is. But that's for another discussion.

As a tablet there could be something proprietary going on to prevent it from behaving like normal Windows on normal PCs and notebooks. I say this because yes, you can create shortcuts to apps on the desktop - I have done it many times too. In fact, when you install programs, most will ask if you want to put a shortcut on the desktop.

However, you said you are "dragging" Netflix to your desktop. That may be your problem. Usually when you "drag" a program to the desktop, Windows sees that as a "move" operation. In that case, it is not creating a "shortcut" on the desktop, it is trying to actually move the program files to the desktop. And that is not normally a good idea as Windows loads all the objects on the desktop during boot. This is why having too many individual shortcuts on the desktop can bog a system down. Maybe that is what the Microsoft tech was trying to say, I don't know.

Instead of dragging Netflix, do this. Go to the Netflix folder and find the Netflix application icon. Then right-click on the icon and scroll down and click on "Send to". Then select "Desktop (create shortcut)". You see the Netflix shortcut icon appear on your desktop. Make sure it works, then see if it sticks around for more than a few days. It should last forever.

I do go into My PC then my C Drive
I then Open the Programs Folder because I see no Apps Folder.

So In the Programs Folder I Open NetFlix Folder.
In here I see a Folder called NetFlix BlueTooth.

And in here is nothing to do with NetFlix.exe.

I did try to go to my Start Menu then Apps and Right Click on NetFlix.
I see Pin to TaskBar and Pin to Start Menu and Open but no Open From Folder Location.

Now if I go to the Start Menu but Open Programs and Right Click on a Program I do see Copy Cut and Open From Locatin.

Can it be Win10 wont let me make ShortCuts to Apps on Desktop?

I am using Win7 Clasic Shell so I do not see the Tiles but I did find this Video.
And it says I can Drage and Drop

    It does not work.

Open From Location will open file explorer with a shortcut. Try dragging the file image onto your desktop.
    It might work.

Well if I do Right Click I get no Open From Locastion.
And if I Drag And Drop it just makes a Blank White Icon.

If I go into My PC and Programs Folder I do not see all my Apps. like I thought.
I just see PC Programs Installed.

What Directory are all of my Apps Located?

Are you dropping the shortcut icon onto the desktop?
It works for me. Perhaps you should open a Command prompt with Admin rights and type sfc /scannow
It usually takes 15 minutes to check through your system.
    Best wishes,
    s.

:( I never said anything about "Open From Folder Location". Not sure why you are asking for help, if, once again, you don't follow the advice given.

    Good luck with your problem.

OK I am Un Able to Make me have Permission to the Windows App Folder.

But if I go to my Start Menu then Apps then Right Click on say TuneIn Radio.
Then Click Pin to Start Menu it puts the ShortCut at the Top of the Start Menu.

Now I can go to the Top of my Start Menu and Creat a DeskTop Shortcut from there.

Why can I do it if the App is at the Top of the Start Menu but not Right from the Apps List?

This seems like I have a Setting Turned Off?

OK I think I am getting closser to why I can not make ShortCuts on my DeskTop.

If I go to the Apps List and Right Click I can Pin to Start Menu.
Then from the Start Menu I can Right Click on it and select Send To DeskTop.

This way works but why do I have to Pin it to my Start Menu then Send to DeskTop.

I tried the second method in the link above and it opened a screen full of programs.

I right-clicked on groovemusic and create short-cut. It responded cannot create shortcut here. Do you want to create on desktop instead?

I clicked 'yes' and now it is there.

Trying to navigate to "Apps", I found I had to turn on 'view hidden files'. Then "Windows Apps" showed up. I had to take ownership to get the right to open and view the contents. After that I right clicked on the folder itself, selected 'create shortcut' and the same responses appeared. I wound up with a short-cut to the apps folder itself.

Ok it works thanks a lot.

But if I Rename a Shortcut I make and then say 2. Days go by the Icon Turns into a Blank White Page.

And it will not work and yes I get this.

It is because the Name of the File it Points to will be of another Name.

But I Rename Shortcuts all the Time and they work.
So what is going on here?

For a Month now if I make a ShortCut to an App on my Win10 Computer I would go Right into the Apps Data Shell Folder and Right Click on one and have it make the ShortCut on my DeskTop.

And I never even Rename the ShortCut I keep it as is.

I have been using my LapTop off and on and all was ok with my Apps.

I go on Last Night and my TuneIn Radio and NetFlix Apps ShortCuts are Blank White Pages for the Icones.

    But they do work.

Is there anything I can try now?

Reboot. Rebuild icon cache. Delete and recreate.

And not sure what you mean by Apps Data Shell. I don't have such a folder. If that is where the executable for those programs are located, fine. Other wise, I recommend creating a shortcut from the program's installation folder, typically found somewhere under Program Files or Program Files (x86).
